What Does Persephone Mean To Me Essay

Χαίρετε, or ¨hello¨ in you mortals English language. My name, as you may know, is Demeter, the goddess of harvest and grain. I am the powerful daughter of Kronos and Rhea. I, provide the growth of agriculture each year, including wheat, plants, and many harvestable crops. I have several symbols that are sacred to me including, many types of livestock, the crane, and various flowers. Along with being commonly known as the goddess of harvest and grain, I am known as the goddess of the cycle of life/death, sacred law, and fertility. Lucky Zeus, my masculine brother, and I, gave birth and had a glorious daughter, named Persephone. Persephone, is the goddess of Spring, and is worshipped right alongside me, her mother. Persephone, was a young, beautiful virgin and the horrendous Hades, he fell deeply in love with her, because of this he came from the underworld, captured her, and dragged her back with him.
In my fit of anger I cursed the land on the earth, allowing all the plants to shrivel up and die, as I set out to look for my beloved daughter, Persephone. A torch sometimes is also used to represent me, due to the long days of endless searching to find Persephone.With the humans greatly suffering, it substantially alarmed Zeus that I was not planting or watching out for the well being of the agriculture, so as a result, he sent off his messenger on a long journey to the underworld, to get our beloved daughter back. In the underworld, Hades tried to give Persephone everything she may ever want, including diamonds and jewels, however, the only thing my daughter wanted was real, live, flowers like the ones on land.
