Some situations allow the smell of the semen to be sensed. Curiosity may influence us to wonder what does sperm smell like. There are ways to influence the natural smell of semen. Potential infections should be treated by a medical professional.

Medications, antibiotics and vitamins may also alter the smell. The use of drugs, such as nicotine and alcohol, may lead to unpleasant odors as well. Anyone who is using cigarette or alcohol should abstain from future usage of the drugs. It is important to drink plenty of water and to develop a healthy diet.

2. Diet

The diet is an important factor regarding the odor of semen. Processed foods may cause the semen to smell especially chemically. Fruits and vegetables will reduce the smell. Meats and animal products may cause the smell of chlorine to be more apparent. Routine tests of the odor of semen may be beneficial to determining dietary health. Fruit-based diets may cause the taste of the semen to improve and change from salty to sweet. As the body becomes more healthy, the sperm and semen will begin to have a better smell.

3. Working Conditions

Some people may work in conditions that are filled with chemicals and pesticides. It is not healthy for the body to be around chemicals all of the time. For those who are working in industries that place them in situations that expose them to chemicals, it would be wise to find new employment. Nevertheless, the similarity of odor to different compounds can be a source of error. For instance, the way humans detect odors is due to the presence of seven different receptors in the olfactory area. When smelling different compounds, some odor chemicals bind with olfactory receptors easily, and other odors need more time to bind with receptors. Therefore, after smelling different compounds one after the other, the receptors can be altered and associate the previous odor with the next one, mixing the smell and making difficult to distinguish correctly the respective odor. For this reason, perfume stores recommend to smell coffee beans between fragrances as a nose-clearing…

In a presumptive test you can conduct an Acid Phosphatase test, which can help in detecting the presence of semen. However this test called “presumptive” for a reason; there are many factors that can alter or contaminate the evidence and therefore falsify the test’s accuracy on the suspected sample. The Acid Phosphatase test can also yield false results because of the test’s high sensitivity. Consequently it can easily be altered by the activity of the enzyme, Acid Phosphatase, the age of the stain, the type of environmental conditions that the sample was and is exposed to, and the presence of vaginal secretions and other bodily fluids. Vaginal secretions can alter the test’s accuracy for semen because it contains, however small, certain amounts of the enzyme, Acid Phosphatase. There are other types of bodily fluids that can alter the test’s accuracy too, but the contamination done by most of these other bodily fluids is miniscule and usually does not alter or contaminate the sample enough to yield false results. There is another type of test called the light test, which uses specialized lights in order to reveal the presence of semen. This test is considered to be “quick” and “easy” because it is useful with preserving both time and money when determining semen’s presence in a suspected area. However, there are many other types of molecules that fluoresce in ways similar to semen; therefore it can be difficult sometimes to determine that a sample really is semen or some other type of molecule. There is another type of test that is used when trying to confirm that a suspected sample really is semen called the Prostate Specific Antigen test. This test can help to aid in the determining of the presence of the prostate specific antigen, (PSA) which is found in the male prostate…
