“...Life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement…” This is the definition of the American dream that james truslow wrote in his book, “The Epic of America”, published in 1931. Throughout time, there has been many historical events that have caused the definition change for most individuals. Such as, the great depression, wars, race inequality issues throughout the 50’s and 60’s and other political issues. Some other definitions are: “the opportunity to make your own life, to make your own decisions”. This was probably the definition for people who didn't have much freedom in their homeland. Some government are very corrupt and people would rather flee than to be controlled. Another is “to be able to earn a decent enough living to provide for a family in a comfortable lifestyle”. People don't necessarily have to be in America to have these dreams. I think that it's a common dream, mostly thought of in america because the american dream is an idea based on the fact that a reason for America’s creation was made because of dreams.
