Throughout the entire novel, The Cask of Amontillado, Montresor seeks to get revenge on Fortunato. This has a significant meaning as there are chances that mental illness could also involve with Poe himself, but also Montressor. In The Cask of Amontillado, Montresor gets away with murder. There have been a lot discussed opinions of details about whether Montresor should have gotten away with the murder of Fortunato saying it as “Capital Punishment”. During the story, laws are not ever discussed. As punishment was not enforced at this time, it only shows how murder was involved.
