The World War 1 Los Angeles Airplane by Richard Brautigan. The father in law in this story was born German blood and raised on a farm. He left the place he used to live and began for his new life. He had done so many things in his life and finally he dead. In the story, the father in law teaches us about never giving up of any opportunities, honesty and make the impossible possible.
First, never giving up of any opportunities. After the war, a middle- aged man told him about there’s a good future to start a bank in Idaho. He went to there and started a bank which soon led to three more banks and everything was going all right. If he didn’t try to start a bank there, he never knows he will be rich. Sometime, when an opportunity comes, you lose it because you don't catch it.
Second, honesty. When the stock market crashed. He gave his men a big bonus. It’s mean truth, being good and fair to someone. It makes us earn people’s trust and respect. Nobody would like to make a friend who has no honest. In the story when his business is broken , he still pays off the debts. This lesson teaches me to be honest and fair.
Finally, make the impossible to be possible. In the story, he decided that he wanted to be a pilot. He was in his late twenties and he was told that it would be impossible because he was too old. He didn’t give up, he went there to try, projected so much energy in to his desire to fly that he was accepted for pilot training and went to Florida and became a pilot. This lesson teaches us at least a try, then told yourself it’s possible or not.
In conclusion, the father in law had many hard time in the story, but he still always keep going, keep looking for opportunity in his life. It’s very important to me and everyone. It will be success or not, it’s because how hard you try to do it and it’s the way to be honest to yourself.
