What Does The Rain Symbolize In Chapter 5 Of The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby: Chapter 5 Analysis
When Gatsby finally reached her, an abrupt weather challenged the mood of the story. The pouring rain represents things going to the sad or wrong direction, but when the rain stops things starts to go well. When it began raining at their meeting, they might have been thinking about the sad and troublesome past, that’s why Daisy was sad and Gatsby is nervous. Additionally, it made the scene and conversation very out of depth and sad. When the rain stops, it represents that Gatsby and Daisy are together; it represents joy after the separation. The rain is a significant symbol of the story because it makes the scene morose, yet when it stops; it fills the whole surroundings with goodness, romance, and joy.

Americans chose to be serfs than peasantry so that they’ll be able to change their rank and salary. Even though they can be serfs, they don’t care whether they’re making money by illegality or legality. When they looked outside through the window, Daisy saw a great view of the ocean and the dock. Also she almost sees Gatsby as a toy or a cuddly person. Daisy wanted to get on of the pink clouds and put Gatsby in it and around. Daisy likes Gatsby because of his idiosyncrasy and wealth, of all the clothes that Gatsby pulled out of his closet and his great mansion and his current status. Daisy likes Gatsby, but was apparently unsure to love Gatsby as a husband unlike

The correlation is especially prominent when Daisy and Gatsby meet again after five years of no contact. For example, when Daisy is late arriving for tea at Nick’s house, it is pouring rain outside. The rain matches the gloomy and worrisome thoughts Gatsby is having. Later, the weather is mistier and less rainy when Daisy arrives. This reflects how Gatsby is less stressed now that she’s there. Even though she’s arrived, Gatsby believes that the entire ordeal is a, “a terrible, terrible mistake” and takes awhile to calm down (66). The rain matches his emotions because it begins pouring again to match his freak out. Throughout the entire situation the rain was mimicking the emotions that Gatsby was feeling. The rain only stops once Gatsby and Daisy have had a conversation and Gatsby is filled with joy. While Gatsby has a, “new well-being” radiating from him, Nick notices that it has stopped raining (67). As Gatsby’s emotions raise and plateau, the rain reflects…

He throws lots of big parties to attract Daisy’s attention. Additionally, after five years being separated from Daisy, what Gatsby worries about when he meets her is not whether she misses him but whether his mansion looks well and the first place he wants her to visit is his splendid house (2). He keeps showing off his belongings and asking Daisy to check whether she is impressed. When “he [revalues] everything in his house according to the measure of response it [draws] from her well-loved eyes” (Fitzgerald 98), it is clear that Daisy’s recognition of his achievements concerns him the most and Gatsby overestimates the importance of material passion in his relationship with Daisy. In the end of the story, when Gatsby is willing to scarify his life-work and fame to save Daisy from being a murderer, this event is argued to be an evidence of love. However, as he desires her in the same way he is in pursuit of the glory of success and Daisy is only a supreme object helping him to strengthen his achievements, the act of protecting her is merely to protect the thing he longs for in his whole…

No matter what the situation, Nick, the narrator of the story always describes Gatsby as having a smile on his face. With his constant smile and overuse of “Ol’ Sport”, very few times in the story do we find Gatsby with a pessimistic attitude. When telling Gatsby that he can’t expect too much of Daisy and that he can’t repeat the past Gatsby replies with, “‘Can’t repeat the past… Why of course you can!’” (Fitzgerald 110). Though faced with almost certain defeat, Gatsby remains hopeful that Daisy will want to relive the past they had together. If this is not a prime example of just how optimistic Gatsby can be then…

Fitzgerald focuses on three main themes in “The Great Gatsby” they are time, loss of appearance, and perspective. Most of the book’s structure is in one of these categories. In order to fully understand the book, we must better understand these three themes.…
