What Does Writing Mean To Me
Samantha-jo McFatridge
UMD 2016 Where ever you look, there is some form of writing. I believe writing is important, because it gives us valuable information. For example, news, weather, obituaries and so much more. I also feel that writing is important to entertain people as well. This type of entertainment includes books, magazines and other forms like this. I may not participate in these types of writings. However, my writing includes papers for school and other school assignments. I have tried to write a short story for fun, but it was not as easy as I thought it would be. I can create stories in my head, often times they are continuations of my most recent dreams, but it is to hard to put them into words. There are many characteristics

I never really thought about it before. I always thought that writing was just news and dull information. But the more I thought about it, I realized it was also a way to express your thoughts or feelings. It is like an outlet for some people. Some people write poems and lyrics to music. Look at all the music out there. Somebody had to write the lyrics and make it meaningful. Martina McBride's music is a good example of this. That is what writing means to me as a person. As a student, it is a way to express what I learned. A person could even ask questions to better understand something. It is a way to express what you do know. I have thought I understood my class material. Then I went to write a paper, and realized I didn't know as much as I thought it did. As a professions, I am guessing that means in my profession and not that of a professional writer. In my profession of psychology, it could be a way to write for grants or keep detailed information of a patient. I could just jot down notes to look for information or check something out. As a professional writer, it is a way pf life for some people. Writing could bring out a creative side for some people. As anyone could tell, writing is an important in any aspect of

The Battle of Gettysburg brought the dueling North and South together to the small town of Gettysburg and on the threshold of splitting the Union. Gettysburg was as close as the United States got to Armageddon and The Killer Angels gives the full day-to-day account of the battle that shaped America's future. Michael Shaara tells the story of the Battle of Gettysburg through the eyes of the generals and men involved in the action of the battle. The historical account of the Battle of Gettysburg gives the reader a chance to experience the battle personally and not the history book manner taught in schools. A historical novel gives the facts straightforward and provides no commentary by the people involved in history. The historical account of the Battle of Gettysburg, as seen in Killer Angels, provides the facts of the battle as seen through the eyes of Generals Robert E. Lee, Joshua Chamberlain, James Longstreet, and John Buford. The feelings and inner-thoughts of each General and the conditions of the battle are seen, heard, and felt by the reader in the historical account. Shaara takes historical license with letters, the words of the men, and documents written during the three hellish days of the battle. Shaara avoids historical opinion and provides his own opinion towards the Civil War and the people. The historical account of the Civil War, the Battle of Gettysburg specifically, in Killer Angels conveys the attitude to toward war, attitude towards the Civil War, and cause for fighting the war of General Robert E. Lee, Joshua Chamberlain, James Longstreet, and John Buford.…

Everyone writes for different reasons. Writing allows us to tell a story through our own perspective. It allows us to pour all our thoughts and emotions into something that we otherwise might not speak about. Writing can spark ideas and memories we have and draw them out to be put into words on paper. It exercises our mind and our way of thinking. When you write you say what you mean. Some people use writing as an outlet, a way to express themselves or relieve stress and anxiety. It can be used for any purpose. Elie Wiesel uses his experience in the holocaust in a lot of his writing. He feels that he must be the one to tell the story of the victims, the ones who can’t tell it for themselves. As a survivor he is responsible for never letting anyone forget about it. I like to write about something I feel strongly about, something that makes me happy or makes me think, someone or something that has influenced me in different ways. For instance, when I visited Ireland a few years ago, the experience I had there is something I care so much about and it has affected me to such an extent that I want to write about it. The people in my life and the experiences I have had are topics that make me excited to write about.…

I don't have much to say about writing for myself. Writing doesn't mean much to me. I am not a writer. I am an orator. However, writing does mean something to my wife. I love my wife. She loves to write. She spends hours a day writing. I watch words flow from her fingertips as she writes page after page. She doesn't let me read much of what she writes, but when she does, I can see the passion and the joy that she has for what she writes about. I wish that I could write with such a fire.…

Teens should not be bystanders to bullying, nor should they be a bully. Being a bystander is just as bad if not worse than bullying. By being a bystander you are standing there watching someone harm another person. Bullying is evil, humiliating, and is life threatening. If you bully, you can seriously hurt someone, whether it’s physically or mentally and in some cases even both. Even if you think you’re just joking, the other person may not think of it as joke, they could think you’re being serious. Also, you don't know that person's background or “story” you don't know what they have been through or what may really hurt them.…

Writing has always been a way to express things in a way that is more creative and exploratory than just talking out loud. With words you can paint a picture better that Picasso could ever dream of. With flowing sentences that swiftly swallow the mind in an array of shrouded mystery that boggles most but the unknowing souls that know not what they know but who they know. With a well constructed array of words and of phrases that coherently make sense you can do wonders.…

I love writing because you can write anything your heart desires. I love how it is a way to communicate with other people. When I was in first grade my teacher whose name has escaped my memory, taught my class how to write in cursive a year early. I loved the way the letters curved and swirled on paper. A desire to write and write anything was sparked by the fact that I thought cursive was pretty. But in first grade I was mostly writing vocab words and not essays so I had not yet discovered its power to communicate. Today, I love writing because I can share my opinion with the world. I see that writing gives me the power to make a difference and all people have to do is read…
