After a long day of dealing with the hunters, Simon knew Piggy was hungry. Simon feeds Piggy because he knows that is the right thing to do. Similar to Simon, Jesus fed 5,000 people because He wanted to prove himself and show the goodness He had. Additionally, Piggy represents the adult perspective and maturity. Ralph and Piggy are trying to start a signal fire, but some boys do not want to listen and want to play and hunt instead. Piggy grabs the conch shell, which means he can talk without being, which means whoever is holding the conch can speak to the group without interruption and have respect. Piggy states, “How can you expect to be rescued if you don’t put things first and act properly?”(45). This quote shows that Piggy is playing the role an adult would play if they were stuck on an island. An adult prioritizes rescue, good behavior, and order, which is exactly what Piggy is trying to do. Finally, Ralph symbolizes responsibility. Third, the pig head on a stick represents savagery. The boys are hunting for a beast they have seen on the island. Instead, they get sidetracked when they see a sow. They begin to stab at the pig and Roger sodomizes the pig brutally. Once the sow is completely dead, Jack asks Roger to sharpen a stick on both sides. Jack decapitates the sow and puts the sow's head on one end of the sharpened stick and the other side on the ground. While everyone is eating the meat from the sow Simon goes on a walk by himself and finds the sow's head, “He opened his eyes quickly and there was a head grinning amusedly in the strange daylight, ignoring the flies, the spilled guts, even ignoring the indignity of being spiked on a stick”(137). This quote demonstrates the savagery the boys did to the show. The boys did not just kill the pig for meat, but sodomized it and decapitated it for fun. A normal person who wanted to kill a sow for meat would not take those steps to brutally murder. To conclude, symbols can be seen in colors in the modern day. One example of a modern-day symbol is yellow, which represents suicide
