The English Bill of Rights came after the reign of the first two Stuart kings, James I (1603-1625) and his son Charles I (1625-1649). Both kings ran into problems with the House of Commons over religious, economic and other political issues. The birth of James 's II son led to the Glorious Revolution of 1688-1689. The English Bill of Rights placed parliamentary limitations on the authority of the crown, which is still a central part of England 's political system.…

It was due in part to Charles’ obsession with creating a unified Kingdom based on his strongly held Laudian religious ideas. Without understanding the Scottish plight he brashly introduced the prayer book, triggering a Scottish backlash against not only against religious reforms but Charles’ foreign rule. Rallying behind their National Covenant, the Scottish manoeuvred Charles into a position through the First and Second Bishops Wars where he was forced to call Parliament. This…

Document 5 showcases how nobles influenced what was published by natural philosophers. Marin Mersenne stated that if his patron did not like his findings, he would remove it. Natural philosophers wouldn't be able to do what they did without somebody finding their work. Thomas Hobbes agreed in document 7, suggesting that if the natural philosophers discovered something their politicians disagreed with, their work would be no longer funded. This suggests a political censorship of the sciences, allowing for politicians to make the citizens of their country to believe only what they want them to believe. Nevertheless, politicians and royalty admired the sciences and wanted to know more. Document 10 illustrates how Louis XIV was intrigued by the ideas the students at the French Royal Academy shared with him. This academy was most likely funded by prominent politicians in the French government. Without political patrons funding the natural philosophers’ work, there would be no work done. It was important for politicians to know about what these natural philosophers were doing, because it could pose a threat to their political…

The war to preserve the Union eventually became a war to end slavery. The Civil War had revolutionary effects on the society of America. The most important of these effects was the abolishment of slavery, the key establishment of society in the South. The emancipation of 4 million slaves in America was far greater than any other emancipation of slaves in the world in every aspect. At the beginning of the war, Lincoln made it known that the North's cause was for free labor. However, Lincoln also stated that the war was not being fought to end slavery, but to preserve the Union.
