Meanwhile, he also presented cantilever for its development in April. It was approved by the Parliamentary Standing Committee. City railway plans were previously created by his forerunners when, in 1914, Bradfield went abroad to research new ways to deal with metropolitan railway development. The Brooklyn Bridge was a feat of modern technology. Its construction spanned from 1869 to 1883, or fifteen years over the lives of its three creators. The first, who was also the designer, was John Augustus Roebling. Many thought it impossible for his plan to succeed, as most other suspension bridges had failed under certain circumstances, but he was determined to prove them wrong. In 1867 his plan was approved by New York legislators and just two years later construction began. Throughout the years of construction, many died, including Roebling himself. After his passing, Roebling’s son, Washington A. Roebling, took his place as chief engineer. For most of the time afterwards, he worked well in this place, but after getting what was called…

The external morphology of Perth is constricted to an area of development because of the natural features such as, the Swan Coastal Plain, The Darling Scarp (East), The Indian Ocean (West), The Swan Canning River System. The swan coastal plain influences the external morphology of Perth, because the well-drained sandy soils provide an ideal foundation for the construction of urban buildings. The flat undulating nature of the plain has facilitated extensive urban sprawl of low density urban development. The configuration of the coastline is a barrier to urban development as it consists of northern to southern corridors projecting from the city. The Swan Canning River System is a major influence on the morphology of Perth as the rivers orientation is strong and impacts on the urban shape, because it is the axis of the two inland corridors. The Darling Scarp also influences the external morphology of Perth as it is a barrier to extensive urban development with discrete pockets rather than continues sprawl.…

Bridges are something that have always fascinated me. In my picture you can see I have the Julien Dubuque Bridge in the background. This bridge is a two lane bridge, it has been debated through the past years on if this bridge will be altered in the future. I think it would be a very interesting lesson for the students to look at adding lanes on the bridge. They could choose to expand the bridge into four lanes, build a second two-lane bridge, or tear down the current bridge and replace with a four-lane. During this project students would need to keep in mind that the Julien Dubuque Bridge is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. They would also have to factor in construction time and possible road detours to decide what would…

In general, leading suspension bridge designers like David Steinman, Othmar Amman, and Leon Moisseiff determined the direction of the profession. Very few people were designing these huge civil works projects. The great bridges were extremely expensive. They presented immensely complicated problems of engineering and construction. The work was sharply limited by government regulation, various social concerns, and constant public scrutiny. A handful of talented engineers became pre-eminent. But, they had what has been called a "blind…

Suspension bridges have benefited our everyday lives since John A. Roebling perfected the suspension bridge design in 1845 and built the Allegheny Suspension Bridge in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Placzek). These bridges are better than previous bridges in many ways. Suspension bridges can span greater distances and are much cheaper than other types of bridges, such as beam bridges, which are simply constructed of beams supporting the deck of the bridge, they cannot span as long as these suspension bridges, and are more costly due to…

Padma Bridge is one of major outstanding infrastructure required for balanced economic development of Bangladesh. It is anticipated that the gross domestic product of the would increase by 2 percent once the bridge was constructed. The bridge, which would connect the southwest region with the rest of the country, could be used for the trans-Asian route; the minister said adding "The Bridge will help gear up industrialisation in the region too."Environmental impact of the bridge would be assessed during the preparation of design. Government is endeavouring to start construction of the proposed Padma Bridge in 2011 to comple it by 2014. The bridge to be built at an estimated more than twenty thousand crore TK would be, the longest bridge in the country with 6.15km length and 25m width, he added. The bridge will have four lanes and a railroad in the middle. The bridge will also have a gas transmission pipeline, power transmission line and telecommunication cable. The Jamuna Multi-Purpose Bridge Authorities (JMBA) that looked after large bridge projects, in a study in 2005 estimated that 918. 76 hectares of land would be needed to be acquired on both the sides of Padma Bridge. The land acquisition cost is estimated at 3.2 billion taka (about 46 million U.S. dollars), said the study. According to a survey by JICA, nearly 30,000 people will lose their lands due to land acquisition for construction of the bridge. The 6.15 km long 22-metre wide, four lane bridge on the river Padma connecting Mawa (35km south of Dhaka) in Munshiganj with Jazira in Madaripur is also likely to contribute hugely to the functioning of the Mongla Port in Bagerhat, the second seaport of the country that fails to attract cargo ships owing to poor communications. The decision to construct the bridge was taken back in 2001 but dilly-dally over selecting the construction sites delayed the process.…
