Conflict as defined by Floger, Poole, and Stutman is the interaction of interdependent people who perceive incompatible goals and interference from each other in achieving those goals. The word that was reiterated was interdependent. The author states that there cannot be conflict if you do not have interdependent people because the non-interdependent people will give up and walk away. Conflict does not always end in a negative result; there can be productive and positive resolution from conflict as well.…
Conflict is omnipresent for every individual regardless of time and place. It is a fundamental part of human existence, leading back to the earliest forms of conflict where our human ancestors competed with other species for survival tools such as food and shelter. Nowadays, conflict has developed into multitudinous forms – from merely debating what to have for lunch to global issues such as climate change. Without conflict, our experiences in life would undoubtedly be less dynamic and vibrant. Conflict is an essential factor to shaping our identity. Our relationship with conflict defines who we are because we learn to formulate our own opinions and values. Conflict is a natural element in the world and although we may not notice each and every single time it presents itself, conflict is a part of our everyday lives.…

Fixing the Broken “El Tonto del Barrio” tells the story of Romero, a man who has an exclusive arrangement in the Golden Heights Centro. Romero sweeps the sidewalks and the barrio gives him handouts, which helps balance the community in a systematic way. Could a nonessential improvement be enough to upset the balance of this community? In the short story “El Tonto Del Barrio,” author Jose Armas intertwines conflict and irony to show readers that one should not fix something that is not broken (896-901). Conflict is viewed as a negative occurrence, but conflict can also be an opportunity for growth and can be an effective means of positive outcome.…
Although all wars are conflicts, not all conflicts are wars. Conflicts don’t always have the involvement of armed hostiles, battles or even the involvement of the military. Conflicts can range from anything as little as an argument between politicians, all the up to an official war. Many people believe since World War 2 there have been less conflicts; however there has simply been less conflicts between nations and more within nations. One of the biggest reasons for this is that 90% of countries are made up of different ethnic groups and cultural groups. Some people do not like different types of people in their country which leads to conflict.…
The two stories I chose were “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin and “The Carnival Dog, the Buyer of Diamonds” by Ethan Canin. Both conflicts have similar ideas, which can be compared and contrasted as I have below. These elements include theme, setting and characters.…
When I think of the term conflict, it would be a disagreement between individuals or even members of a community, group or country. While some conflicts can be over trivial things, others can lead to possible wars, riots and even violence. Being in a society where every individual is entitled to their own opinions and moral values, conflicts can arise very easily. As we are constantly interacting with others through society, it can cause conflicts to happen every day. Even at home, I am sure we face conflicts with our families on so many levels. Whether it be spouses arguing over silly things like keeping up with household chores, or siblings fighting over balance of power, conflicts…

Conflict is an inevitable event that occurs through stages of life; whether it’s individual or society, conflict is bound to happen at one point in time. Conflict is an outbreak that occurs when two sides are having different viewpoints and opinions. As a community, we as a whole have to find ways in which we can get along and work together. Conflict can arise when vulnerable people are faced with challenging circumstances or are put into a different environment. The destructive and inevitable nature of conflict may cause the decline of individuals and communities who cannot cope with the different beliefs, ideas and knowledge in society. True colours are seen in both the individual and communities when difficult situations arise, and in a way, they are seen as a test in separating the weak from the strong, and the vulnerable from the powerful. How people deal with the initial outbreak of conflict reflects their own behaviour, beliefs, morality, and experiences. In most circumstances, people’s opinions, and beliefs will be different and although having opposing views is a part of everyday life, the conflicts that arise are seen to be a destructive force on our lives today. Throughout all of history, conflict has never ended quite the way people want it to. Conflict can indeed be positive but if the differences that resulted in conflict are not resolved, it can be a very destructive. The ongoing war in Afghanistan and the Cronulla riots are all evidence of the destructive nature of conflict and how evident it is in our lives.…

This was an unusual POW in a number of ways. Firstly, it consisted on no soldiers or men, simply women and children. Despite being women, they were subject to hard labour had they not joined the gentlemen’s club. They had a camp choir or “vocal orchestra” which also set them apart from the regular POW camps.…
