DOUGLAS MACARTHUR WAS BORN JANUARY 26 1880 AT THE LITTLE ROCK BARRACKS IN ARKANSA. HE SPENT MOST OF HIS CHILDHOOD ON WESTERN FRONTIER OUTPOST WHERE HIS FATHER WAS STATIONED. IN 1903 MACARTHUR GRADUATED AT THE TOP OF HIS CLASS FROM THE U.S MILITARY ACADEMY AT WEST POINT. IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR DOUGLAS MACARTHUR HAD HELPED HIS FATHER DURING THE WORLD WAR 1. HE ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE AMERICAN HELP WITH THE OCCUPATION OF VERACRUZ, MEXICO IN 1914. MACARTHUR WAS PROMOTED TO BRIGADIER GENERAL IN FRANCE FOR LEADING THE 42ND RAINBOW DIVISION. THE 42ND RAINBOW DIVISION OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY NATIONAL GUARD. DURING THE YEARS DOUGLAS MACARTHUR SERVED AS THE SUPERINTENDENT AT WEST POINT AND HAD A VARIETY CHANGES TOWARDS MODERNIZING THE SCHOOL OF WEST …show more content…
AFTER MACARTHUR’S TERM AS CHIEF OF STAFF HAD ENDED AND WAS GIVEN THE TASK OF CREATING AN ARMED FORCE FOR THE PHILIPPINES. IN 1941 JAPAN WAS POSING AS A THREAT, THEN DOUGLAS MACARTHUR WAS CALLED BACK INTO ACTION. DOUGLAS MACARTHUR WAS NAMED COMMANDER OF THE U.S. ARMY. ON DECEMBER 8,1941 HIS AIR FORCE WAS HIT WITH A SURPRISE ATTACK AND WAS DESTROYED BY THE JAPANESE. DOUGLAS MACARTHUR WAS FORCED TO RETREAT TO THE BATAAN PENINSULA WHICH THEY HAD TROUBLE SURVIVING. AFTER ALL OF THIS DOUGLAS MACARTHUR AND HIS FAMILY FLED TO THE CORREGIDOR ISLANDS AND LEFT TO AUSTRALIA. DOUGLAS MACARTHUR PROMISED SAYING THAT HE WOULD RETURN BACK TO THE PHILIPPINES. IN APRIL 1942 MACARTHUR APPOINTED THE SUPREME COMMANDER OF THE ALLIED FORCES IN THE SOUTHWEST PACIFIC. FOR HIS DEFENSE AT THE PHILIPPINES DOUGLAS MACARTHUR WAS AWARDED THE MEDAL OF HONOR. DOUGLAS MACARTHUR WAS A BIG PART OF THE PLAN CALLED ISLAND HOPPING. ISLAND HOPPING IS PHRASE OF A STRATEGY IN WHICH THE U.S. USED TO GAIN CONTROL OF MILITARY BASES AND SECURE THE MANY SMALL ISLANDS IN THE PACIFIC. DOUGLAS MACARTHUR SPENT THE NEXT TWO AND A HALF YEARS IN CHARGE OF THE ISLAND HOPPING BEFORE HE HAD RETURNED BACK TO THE PHILIPPINES.“I HAVE …show more content…
LATER IN THAT YEAR IN THE MONTH OF DECEMBER DOUGLAS MACARTHUR WAS PROMOTED TO THE RANK OF GENERAL AND ALSO GIVEN CONTROL OF ALL THE ARMY FORCES THE WHERE STACHENDED IN THE PACIFIC.ON SEPTEMBER 2, 1945 DOUGLAS MACARTHUR WAR WITH THE JAPANESE AND WORLD WAR TWO WAS FINALLY OVER FOR HIM WHEN HE OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED THE SURRENDER OF THE JAPANESE ON BOARD OF THE USS MISSOURI IN TOKYO BAY.DOUGLAS MACARTHUR IN THE KOREAN WAR WAS GIVEN PART CONTROL OVER ALL THE UNITED NATIONS ARMIES.WITH PART CONTROL OF THIS ARMY PUT HIM BACK AT THE CHINESE BORDER WHEN HE WAS AT THE CHINESE BORDER HE WOULD END UP MEETING WITH THE UNITED STATES PRESIDENTS AT THAT TIME WAS PRESIDENT TRUMAN. HE WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE NEW COMMUNIST FORCE OF CHINA MIGHT TAKE THE PLACEMENT OF DOUGLAS MACARTHUR AS MORE OF A THREAT THEN A HELPFUL HAND OF THE UNITED NATIONS TRYING TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE THAN IT WAS THE MOMENT THIS WAR STARTED WITH THE KOREANS.

On October the 24th and 25th he was in command of two heavy machine gun sections and defending a pass to Henderson Airfield.
