Alienation is a big theme when it comes down the the modern period of art and classical works of literature. During this time period many works of art showed emphasis on isolation and emotional disassociation from society, friends, and even family. Two specific examples of these types of masterpieces are Edvard Munch’s, The Scream, and Franz Kafka’s novella, Metamorphosis. Both of these pieces of art reveal the theme of alienation in a comparable light; furthermore, they outline the instances that lead to isolation from oneself and the world.…

Words are simply measures of explanation, not necessarily things. We cannot simply look at a word and picture it, since it is simply a word. Our words, however, never perfectly explain what we see or how we perceive an image because our opinions and outlooks are unique, affected by what we believe and know. We often try to excessively interpret these “perspectives”, in an act of mystification. We analyze these paintings’ beauty and hidden beauty, rather than its reason for being. I don’t think people should look at works of art like this because it takes away true and purer meaning. I believe people should interpret what they want and let their imagination run free. For this reason, images are much more accurate and rich than words alone. These interpretations can’t reflect the image’s original outlook, and therefore take away from the meaning originally given to it by its maker.…

I took a group of four children to do a painting activity with me at the table. I then went on to ask each child what they would like to paint. All the children suggested they wanted to paint a castle, apart from child C who wanted to paint a picture of his family. I then asked each child what colour paper they would like to paint on and they all shouted “Blue” at me. I asked each child to pick the sizes of the paint brush they would like to paint with, as I went around all the children took a large paint brush and left me with four small brushes. Child C was very upset because there were no more large paint brushes and he does not like to use a small paint brush, as he finds it easier to paint with the larger brushes only, when he is painting…
