In the 48 years between the end of the Civil War and the end of her death in 1913. Harriet spent time taking care of the poor. She took care of them in her home. She often had 6-8 people with her taking care of them. Some of the people she took care of include the paralyzed, the blind, the babe-deserted, and the epilzeptic.
Another one of Harriet's achievements was being a Civil War Nurse. Harriet started nursing in 1863. Just after 7 weeks of the Combahee River raid, the all-black Massachusetts 54th made their mark. This all happened on the Fort Wagner in the Charleston Harbor. Harriet served as a nurse for the wounded survivors. The assault on Fort Wagner has been the subject of a film. Without any pay she made pies and gingerbread houses and sold them.
So on, another one of her greatest achievements was being underground railroad conductor. After Harriet Tubman escaped from slavery, she returned to slave-holding states many times to help other slaves escape. She led them safely to the northern free states and to Canada. It was very dangerous to be a runaway slave. There were rewards for their capture, and ads like you see here described slaves in detail. Whenever Tubman led a group of slaves to freedom, she placed herself in great danger. There was a bounty offered for her capture because she was a fugitive slave herself, and she was breaking the law in slave states by helping other slaves
