The humanistic approach therefore aligns to this line of thinking as it focuses on knowing the client as deeper as you could in order to effectively help him or her. Mytton (2003) contends that for clients to describe what they actually experience, a counsellor has to suspend his or her own assumptions and values. Ability to work on instinct and improvisation to accommodate the client is good for a mutual relationship. Through use of unconditional positive regard, clients develop confidence; self-concept and trust there by letting them make choices without…

The clinet’s treatment plan must be appropriate and relational and this will alow any type of medication and adaptions to be adjusted if needed so that modifications and adaptations can be adjusted as needed (Altman, Briggs, Frankel, Gensler, and Pantone, 2002). The ultimate goal of case conceptualization and treatment planning is to discover complete findings in relation to the client. One approach is Existential Therapy. The human condition is the core focus of Existential Therapy. This type of therapy is a powerful approach that focused on a positive outlook of life and the potential of human beings. However, this therapy alsorecognizes and acknowledges human beigs limitation. Existential Therapy is the “philospohphical” form of therapy. According to Irvin D. Yalom (1980) there are four concerns that ultimately will be the core of any human problem, which are death, freedom and its attendant responsibility, existential isolation, and finally meaninglessness. These four concerns form the body of existential psychotherapy and make up the the basis in which a therapist conceptualizes a client's problem in order to develop a method of treatment.…

4.1 Following on from Abraham Maslow’s (1908-70) work on well known Hierarchy of Needs, American psychologist, Carl Rogers (1902-87) developed humanistic therapy known as Person-Centered Therapy (PCT).The basic belief of this therapy is for the therapist to develop a more personal relationship with the client, to help the client reach a state of understanding that they can help themselves. This idea can be achieved by encouraging the person towards growth, placing great stress on the present situation rather than the past.PCT espouses the belief that where three necessary conditions are present in the counseling process, then the conditions will be sufficient for the client to move forward to finding solutions to their problems. These three so-called Core Conditions are-: 1 the therapist is congruent with the client.2The therapist provides the client with unconditional positive regard.3The therapist shows empathetic understanding to the client. The presence of these conditions in therapy allows a person’s actualizing tendency to be triggered and developed. A central belief of PCT is that the client knows better. It is the client who understands in what ways he/she is unhappy, and it is the client who best knows how to solve these problems.…

When it comes to counseling, it is great to have the proper knowledge of various tools, so that a counselor’s professional behavior allows him or her to be flexible and to apply different techniques based on the individual’s problems and situational needs of every client who is seen. With there being a variety of different techniques, there are two counseling theories that are different, and their effectiveness comes from opposite sides of counseling, but they are very similar in the same way. These approaches are known as the Client-Centered Approach and the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is important that good therapists are properly equipped with both concepts and are readily aware on how both of these concepts are used so they can help the client in the best possible way needed.…

There are many times when a person goes through life with many ups and downs, however when you are going through these changes, you have to have the ability to know how to handle stressful situations. When dealing with humanistic personality, this would allow the people to have the freedom to choose their behavior. Humanistic Holistic Theory is a theory that emphasizes on engaging the person as a whole and focusing on the future rather than the pass (Brill & Levine, 2005, p. 58). This theory let you know that whatever a person has done in their lives, they have room to grow and prove that no matter what their life styles may have been or how they are living, they can always change that; once a drug addict does not means that you will always be a drug addict, you have room for…

Every person in the world has one thing in common and that one thing is death. Not many people want to face the fact that everyone will die at a certain point in time until that time is brought among them. Existentialism is the theory of being a living human individual and that ultimately life is meaningless because the world keeps moving on when death occurs. This theory is prevalent in the novel The Stranger by Albert Camus and the film Office Space by Mike Judge. In The Stranger a shipping clerk named Mersault lives his life without caring about societal standards and he believes that having faith in a higher god is a waste of his time. In Office Space a man named Peter Gibbons is programmer at a software company called Initech, he is fed up with a job and the lifestyle that he is living in. Although the characters in The Stranger and Office Space inflict with different plots and people, they share the same indifference to the world, choose their own path, and accept the consequences of their decisions.…

The following paper discusses the personal model of helping called the existential therapy model. The model of therapy is used to help people in counseling live better, stress free lives by exploring themselves and learning to live an authentic life. This model is effective when the therapist is authentic themselves and are genuine about helping others, which builds a positive relationship between the therapist and the client. This kind of model allows the client to open up and gives them the ability to explore themselves; past, present, and future. Existential therapy allows the client to understand that their lives are a direct response from the choices that they make in their lives. The therapist also gives the client tools to help change the new found negative behaviors. And although change is sometimes hard to adapt to, with the proper tools from the therapist and motivation from the client, the correct path to an authentic live can began and goals achieved. Existential therapy recognizes the problems of the human condition and existence while at the same time emphasizing human beings' great potential and freedom to respond constructively to these challenges. It helps individuals who choose depression as a response to existential difficulties to break this negative pattern ("Ehow.com", 2013).…
