What Is Love And Death A Satire
Love and Death was absolutely hilarious, being the funniest movie of all the films we saw. The satire on Russian literature took a subject that was originally serious and dark and turned it on its head. A comedy which requires thought, Love and Death provides the viewers jokes with a level of philosophy. The leading characters Boris and Sonia played by Woody Allen and Diane Keaton are intelligent philosophers in their own right. If I can offer any criticism is that the comedy is dark but, also offensive to certain ethnic groups. In the movie Boris claims to have gotten "so depressed, he tried to commit suicide by inhaling next to an Armenian." This quote is a joke that clearly places the film in black comedy but, the joke is offensive to Armenians.

Prior to any and all discussion regarding the Brooklyn college production of Big Love, allow me to express that I now consider Charles L. Mee an excellent playwright. I had (and to some extent, still do) notions about such a drastic artistic interpretation of what it is to love; I felt that anyone who could, through any medium, explain the application of said concept within the institution of marriage had completely confused themselves. After witnessing the performance, I felt that I had misunderstood for so long what it can mean to love; one can want, one can lust in intent to love, one can fear to love- all in or out of, with or against time…

    Shaun Of The Dead Satire

The film Shaun of the Dead is a British zombie flick filled with comedy, romance, and horror. It is an original piece, directed by Edgar Wright and co-star Simon Pegg, which uses irony throughout the entire movie. Many critics think of the movie as a British comedy but I believe it is much more than that. I believe the cast was appropriately chosen for this movie. The main character is Shaun, Simon Pegg, who's an irresponsible young man who just wants to have fun without any responsibility. He is accompanied by his best friend Ed, Nick Frost, who is a slacker and moocher, but adds much of the humor to the film. Another main character is Liz, Kate Ashfield, who is Shaun's girlfriend.…

    Satire In Get Out

With the closing of the “post-racial” America of the Obama years and the inauguration of the Trump presidency the untreated wounds of American society have attained new levels of visibility. The “dog-whistle” racism which forms the base of the New Jim Crow is rapidly crumbling, exposing a virulent white supremacy no longer able to legitimize itself behind the fiction of racial “colorblindness.” In such periods of social unrest the power of racial representation is critical. Beyond providing a snapshot of the prevailing attitudes and morality of the artistic culture, in their most subversive form such representations challenge dominant sectors of society to interrogate the myths they have constructed to oppress despised populations.…

    Kurt Vonnegut Satire

Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle is a fictional embedment of satirization used to reveal the flaws in mankind. Throughout the story Vonnegut introduced objects and characters that are meant to be satirical representations of people and things in the world. For example, Felix Hoenikker is a satirical element of science and technology in that he is presented as a man who believes that everything in the world is a game or puzzle and has no consequence. The hook in San Lorenzo is used as mockery of the death penalty. Finally, H Lowe Crosby is a representation of capitalism and all of its problems that is causes society. Mankind’s failure to solve the repetitive problems that negatively affect the country is Kurt Vonnegut’s message in Cat’s Cradle,…

“Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody's face but their own” (Swift). Jonathan Swift, a satirical writer during the eighteenth century, made an excellent metaphor revealing that satire is written in such a way that the author exposes only what they want the reader to know. This same metaphor reigns true even today in modern satirical writing within the structure, tone, and what the writings are used for; dependent upon the point of view, I personally choose juvenalian satire for being more effective in more ways than horatian.…

Lord Bryon once said, “Fools are my theme, let satire be my song”. A satire is a literary composition, in verse or prose, in which human folly and vice are held up to scorn, derision,or ridicule (dic.com). A well recognized satire is George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Orwell wrote this allegorical novella in England when the wartime alliance with the Soviet Union was at its height and Stalin was held in highest esteem in Britain both among the people and government. George Orwell wrote Animal Farm to fuse political purpose and artistic purpose into one whole, thus addressing the downfall of the Russian Revolution which was caused by its corrupt leaders and ignorant citizens.…

There are many examples where Romeo displays his witty and humorous personality. In scene 2, while Romeo and Benvolio are talking, Capulet’s servingman sees Romeo and asks him if he knows how to read. Romeo answers, “ay if I know the letters and the language” (1.2.66). Romeo cleverly responds to the servingman. He humorously is avoiding answering the question. Additionally in scene 4, where Romeo and Mercutio were talking about dreams, Mercutio exclaims, “dreamers often lie” (1.4.56). Romeo replies, “in bed asleep while they do dream things true” (1.4.57). Romeo, being ingenious, makes a play on words with the word lie. Mercutio was referring…

As I began watching this film, it starts off with Jodie Foster who plays Clarice Starling climbing a rope up a hill. Clarice is smart, she is strong, and she is most likely a very talented member of the law enforcement. As she is running, we are informed as viewers that Special Agent Crawford would like to speak to her. She’s given the task to interview and pass a survey to incarcerated serial killer. A simple task to do and it seems simple enough, but there is only one serial killer left to interview and you guessed it, it is Dr. Hannibal Lecter.…

I think love is a word taken to seriously, just as hate is a word taken to lightly. I love most things and I hate practically nothing. Yet I always finding myself saying I 'hate' this and that, but rarely declaring my love for anything. While 'hate' is tossed around like a football, 'love' is hidden deep in a complicated corn maze like the one in The Shinning. And when you got inside the maze, looking for love, a possessed Jack Nicholson comes chasing after you with an ax, forcing you to run backwards in the snow in order to throw him off your trail. Metaphorically, of course.…
