Three elements of culture that define me would be languages, traditions, and art. Language is very important to me because it's how I communicate with my family. Growing up I loved seeing art especially when I went to Mexico this summer and saw the street art. My favorite was mesoamerican art during the time of this all influences on art were indigenous. Also Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Jos? Clemente Orozco, and Fernando Leal who created visual narratives of Mexican history and culture. Growing up chicana I had a very different mentality than the rest of my family who were born and raised in Mexico. My dad had this mentality that girls were only pretty if they had long hair and dressed feminine. Me on the other hand hated anything to do with wearing dresses and skirts. Every time I was forced to wear them I would scold my parents the entire night. Around the age of 13 I decided long hair was annoying and I wanted short hair so I cut it myself one day after school. When my dad saw it he was disappointed because he felt like it was too masculine for me. A good portion of the men in my family wouldn't clean or cook because they said that was a woman's job. That always caused a lot of controversy with me and my family because I
