Numbers don’t define us. They don’t make or break us or determine our self-worth. Although I now know this, I look back on my younger years and realize that I might have placed too much emphasis on my grades and the value they gave me as a person. I remember a time when I would cry if I received a low grade on a test or an assignment. While I still do believe that grades are important I sometimes wish that I would have realized that as long as I tried my best, I still succeeded.…

A huge contribution to that belief is coming from their parents. A lot of these parents force their child to believe that anything lower than a 4.0 is failure, but in reality it isn’t. It isn’t the end of the world if your child has a 3.8 GPA because of a B+ from AP Calculus. In addition, parents should not bring forgotten homework to school. Let the pupils learn from their small mistake, because everyone forgets and fails to complete a task at one point. Students in college don’t call their parents to bring forgotten homework. They have to face the consequences for their…

My first semester of high school math, failed. All I wanted to do was sit down and admit defeat, nothing I could do could save me from continuing to tumble down from this spot. Later that week I got called down to the guidance councilor, we discussed my problems and ways to possibly fix the mess I was in. I came out of that office with a new hope. That night I talked to my parents about getting a tutor to help me in my grades. Both of them happily agreed and I started getting tutored. With the help of my tutor I managed to pass the second semester of Algebra…

Throughout elementary and middle school, I always thought education wasn’t as important as other things such as the sports I played, hanging out with friends and doing things that I enjoyed. I would often find myself blowing off homework and doing it last minute or not even doing it all. I’ve changed quite a bit since those days, but it took me some time to realize that what I was doing wasn’t any good for me. I believe that at some point in your life, you have to realize that education is everything and you won’t go anywhere in life without it.…

I was senior in high school when it hit me how far off course I was. Basketball was my first priority, instead of school, since it was my last year in high school. My grades had always been good before my senior year. I was a straight A student and always doing the best I can in school. When the senior year came around, I realized that I could play basketball in college because many people had told me that I have the potential to play college and my coaches believe that too. So every day, I dedicated myself and put all my focus in basketball, so I can play college ball. My grades were slipping down pretty fast, but it didn’t matter to me, because I didn’t think high school grades were that important and could affect me at any point. Until one…

Going through grades was easy for me because all I did was help the teacher until 4th grade when I swapped schools. I was so used to not doing classwork or homework that when I was given it I just didn‘t do it, but really without seeing it my vision was the real reason I couldn’t participate in a lot of the classwork we did. I was ending my 3rd quarter of 4th grade with an F (a 30% to be exact) all from test. Since I could not see (I saw at 10 feet what normal people would see at 40 feet).I just became a goof off never doing anything in the class. In my 4th quarter conference my teacher said to my mom and I that I would never be successful in life.…
