We often as humans wish we could live our lives in the shoes of an action star, celebrity or even a vigilante on the run. For most of us, this is something that we only experience through the eye of a camera or on the silver screen. But with the 1997 film “The Game,” it supplies a blood pumping plot that not only displays these craved experiences but dramatises the need for excitement in society's everyday lives. The general plot of “The Game” is that a wealthy businessman named Nicholas Van Orton played by Michael Douglas gets a voucher from his younger brother that makes his life fun and “a game.” Van Orton then indulges in the game and his life soon becomes a whirlwind of conspiracy and action that takes over his life.
Acting
The
cast of The Game doesn’t fail to impress. It is full of top shelf actors including Michael Douglas and Sean Penn which bring a sense of realism and chilling factor to the film. This film clearly shows why these actors are so highly regarded as it is through the actors extensive and powerful acting that as the viewer we are completely induced into the film and begin to feel as if we are in the circumstances that the protagonist Nicholas Van Orton (Douglas) faces. Because the story follows the question of the events happening to Van Orton being part of the game or whether the game was in fact a scam and his life is coming down in ruins, it is then through the acting of the rest of the cast that makes the viewer's question every aspect of the plot and has us on the edge of our seat waiting to reach the climax.
