It is easy to relate to Ehrenreich’s trials and tribulations with the housing situation because being from San Francisco, the housing market has always been expensive, even years ago when I got my first place before the dot com boom, and all the new software company start ups. Also in an expensive city that’s only seven by seven miles, low cost housing is hard to come by. Anything new being built in the city is very overpriced and even the old houses and buildings are very expensive. In bad areas of the city one could maybe find affordable housing, but one would still need a lot of money for move-in costs. So a lot of people have to live outside of San Francisco in less desirable cities.…

Urbanism at its eclectic finest exists in the city of San Francisco. The name itself brings to mind its many sociocultural icons. The Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown, and Alcatraz Island are unique to San Francisco yet do not define the city. From a tiny missionary village to wild west frontier town to love-ins and gay pride to world-class city characterize San Francisco as a distinctive metropolis. Environmentally, San Francisco is far from ideal. At the tip of the peninsula on San Francisco Bay, surrounded on three sides by water, San Francisco is windy most of the time. It has moderately cool temperatures year round and is plagued by dense fog, steep hills, and earthquakes. In spite of this San Francisco has…

When entering my home zip code of 43229, I found the most surprising aspect to be the description they use in identifying the population. One description comes to mind, "Boomtown Singles". It translates Boomtown Singles as being Young, hip singles who are the prime residents of Young Achievers, a life-stage group of twenty something year olds who 've recently settled in metro neighborhoods. Their incomes range from working-class to well to do; but most residents are still renting apartments in cities or close-in suburbs. These seven segments contain a high percentage of Asian singles, and there 's a decidedly progressive sensibility in their tastes as reflected in the group 's liberal politics, alternative music and lively nightlife. Young Achievers segments are twice as likely as the general population to include college students living in groups. In addition, it identifies their Lifestyle traits (www.claritas.com). It…
