PH Balance in the Human Body As we all know every solution is either acid or alkaline. Alkaline is often called base. These solutions can be anything from body fluids, to fruits, vegetables, seawater, beverages you name it. Acid and alkaline is measured in pH. It starts as low as zero being very acidic and works its way up to fourteen being the most basic. The pH of our stomach is 2, obviously to digest food, wine is 3.5,water is 7(neutral), arterial blood is 7.4, and seawater is 8.5. Baking soda is 12. Virtually all-degenerative disease including cancer, heart disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, kidney and gall stones and tooth decay are associated with excess acidity in the body. The amazing

Acids and bases • Acids – release H+ ions in water • Bases -- release OH- ions in water • pH is a measure of hydrogen ion (H+) concentration – Lower pH – acidic – Higher pH basic – pH is logarithmic – a difference of 1 (from pH 4 to 5) is actually a ten-fold increase in H+ conc. • From 3 to 7?…

The substances that I found to be acids are vinegar, mouthwash, gastric juice, black coffee, and lemon juice. These substances were found to be acids because after testing them by dipping pH paper into a well fill with about three drops of the substance, the color of the paper turned to a color correlating with the color of a six or lower on the pH scale.…

Acids normally are spoken of as giving a hydrogen ion to a solution while bases take one away. Every solution is generally either acidic or basic. Even tap water can be either slightly acidic or basic due to the natural elements like calcium or magnesium that are often naturally found in it (How Can You Tell If Something Is An Acid Or A Base, 2007).…

As a result we found out how chemicals and HCL combine, changing the water’s pH levels. When pH levels are too high, the water is labeled as being too acidic meaning it is too hazardous to drink or touch. AST International claims that “Most of us automatically classify lemons, rhubarbs and vinegar as acidic solely because of the way they taste. We don’t realize that strawberries and tomatoes and plenty of other foods are acids too” (Tanasescu). The release of hydrogen ions is how we determine if foods are classified as acids or…

Acids are a subject that reacts to a base. A base is a substance that can accept hydrogen ions (protons). These two components together help the human body to stay balanced. The pH scale will help determine which direction the body is leaning towards; the base or the acid. The body has a buffering system to help regulate the process.…

We are in acid–base balance when the making of hydrogen ions in our body is exactly offset by their loss. When acid–base balance occurs, the pH of body fluids stays within normal limits. Stopping a reduction in pH is the main problem, because our body produces a variety of acids during normal metabolic tasks.…

The color of anthocyanin depends on acidity, and thus it may serve as a pH (acid/base) indicator (Figure II). pH is a quantitative measure of the acidity or basicity of solutions. Numerically, the pH of a solution is defined as the negative logarithm (base 10) of the hydronium ion (H3O+) concentration. If the pH is less than 7 the solution is acidic, if it is greater than 7 the solution is basic, and if it is 7 the solution is neutral. The…
