An important moment for the Christians in attempt to reconquer was the battle of Covadonga. This battle was the first major victory by Christian military forces in Iberia following the Muslim moors conquest of that region in 711. It was fought at Covadonga, its thought to be fought sometime between 718- 722. A Visigothic nobleman named Don Pelayo along with a small band of poorly equipped Christian soldiers, defeated a much larger and highly skilled army of moors.
