Having a natural talent to create congenial visuals, Ronnie George of Signs Unlimited located at 242 W. Hobsonway, began what he thought would be a one time thing in 1981 and turned into a seasonal career.
Fast forward to 2016, George’s painted masterpiece can be seen at places like Subway, Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant, Courtesy Inn, Nails and Hair, Pizza Studio and 25 other buildings, bringing cheer to customers and appealing to those traveling through Blythe.
Acquiring academic professionalism, George went to art school at Palo Verde College, opened up a store, which later allowed him to put his hobby into good use and finesse his
crafty skills.
Known in town for making signs, banners and more, George still makes time just before the holidays to makeover windows and spread holiday happiness.
“We usually change it up every year,” George said about his drawings. “Sometimes store owners decide on what they want, and sometimes they just let us go for it. However, we do it for any holiday.
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, George said that’ll be the next big project, but this time, it won’t be him doing the painting.
After serving the Blythe community after all these years, George has decided to pass the torch. Possessing the same innate skill of their father, sons Cyle and Nick George will now take on the new responsibility and paint the town.
“I still enjoy painting the windows, but just not as much,” George said.
Complimenting his sons on how good they’ve gotten over the years, George said his sons are very talented and enjoy painting windows, just as much as he has.
“I taught them how to do it and now they’ve gotten so good, they have surpassed me in skill, but I still can show them some stuff,” George heartily said.
Still having his daily work at the shop to keep him busy, George said, he loves the idea of his sons carrying the new responsibility, “and if my kids will have me some grandkids, I hope they will pass this on, as well.”
