Sexual Morality: Extra Marital Sex Sexual morality, also known as sexual ethics, deals with all things related to human sexual behavior. Any aspect of ethics that may bring issues of sexuality to the forefront also fall under sexual morality. These issues may include but are not limited to sexual relations before marriage as well as during and also explore issues of premarital sex, non-marital sex, and marital fidelity. Diving deeper into the sexual morality issue known as marital fidelity, we discover that marital fidelity, or rather marital infidelity as is explored in this paper, is a prominent ethical issue also known as extramarital sex. Many believe that with marital fidelity comes the promise of strict observance to a duty of faithfulness and loyalty made at the time marital vows are exchanged. While extramarital sex is generally considered by law or in religion to be adultery, there are a number of groups, cultures, and individuals whom believe that with honest dialogue and consent from those involved an open marriage may be the accepted norm.
Rich 2 Extramarital sex, or infidelity, is an ethical issue that has transcended time. Historically, the act of infidelity has been ultimately viewed as a serious offense however it was often the wives whom repeatedly received punishment rather than both husband and wife for any indiscretions committed by either. This practice dates all the way back to the classical Greeks and Romans. When considering the fact that polyamory specifically defines the action of taking multiple partners as being acknowledged and accepted by all parties involved as well as being a means in seeking out happiness for all those involved it is hard to argue the opposite. This definition alone solidifies the fact that all parties involved are acting out of duty. Although polyamory is not the normal order of marriage in terms of a monogamous relationship, it is in a open marriage. All parties involved have entered into an agreement that brings along with it rules and/or duties that are expected to be followed. By participating in a polyamorous relationship one is in adhering to ones duties thus fulfilling the expectations of the deontological theory. There is no denying that an open marriage or polyamorous relationship is unconventional.
