What is Sexual Perversion?

Definition

Sexual perversion according to a medical dictionary is a condition in which sexual excitement or orgasm is associated with acts that are considered unusual within the culture. A neutral term Paraphilia, which is derived from Greek roots meaning “alongside of” and “love” is used to describe sexual perversion.

A paraphilia is a condition in which a person’s arousal and satisfaction depend on a fantasy theme of an unusual situation or object that becomes the main focus of sexual behaviour. Sexual perversion is define by DSM-IV as “sexual impulse disorders distinguished by intensely arousing, recurrent sexual fantasies, urges and behaviours considered deviant with respect to cultural norms

Common sign of sexual activity that can be classified as sexual perversion include the following: The inability to resist an impulse for the sexual act, the requirement of participation by non-consenting or under-aged individuals.

Sexual perversion include fantasies, behaviours which: Involves nonhuman sexual objects, such as shoes or undergarments (fetishism), require the suffering or humiliation of oneself or partner (sexual sadism), involve children or other non-consenting partners (pedophilia).

Other common Paraphilia or sexual perversion are: exhibitionism or exposure of the genitals, frotteurism or touching and rubbing against a non-consenting person, sexual masochism or the receiving of humiliation or suffering, transvestic fetishism or cross-dressing and voyeurism or watching others engage in undressing or sexual activity and homosexuality or same sex intercourse.

Biblical View The Bible places sex and sexual activity within the larger context of holiness and faithfulness. In this regard, the Bible presents an honest and often detailed explanation of God's design for sex and its place in human life and happiness. Though sexuality is God’s gifts, only marital sex is presented as holy and natural, all other forms of sexual activity are condemned and sinful. the Bible expressly forbids homosexuality, bestiality, incest, prostitution, rape, pederasty, and all other forms of sexual deviance and perversity [Lev. 18:22; Cor. 5:1-13; Ex. 2:16-17; Prov. 7:1-27].

There are several accounts in the bible citing sexual perversion as an immoral act. The book of 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verses 9-10 says
“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

These verses provides that sexual perversion is an immoral act.

Church View

The church views sexuality as part of mankind’s nature, but is as part that is only there for the purpose of procreation and mutual love between a husband and a wife. All other sex is a perversion of the purpose for which God created it. The Catholic Church’s view on any sex outside of a lifelong marriage between one man and one woman is that it is wrong. It is a selfish turning to one’s self that is ignoring the purpose for which God made us and for the purpose for which he made sex.

Argument

As a Christian, a follower of Christ.For me sex is a gift and should not be perverted. because it is an act of abomination to the Lord. The lord said in Leviticus 18 verse 4
“Obey my laws and do what I command. I am the Lord your God. 5 Follow the practices and the laws that I give you; you will save your life by doing so. I am the Lord.”

Though it is doesn’t mean we are to condemn people who are engaged in it. Doesn’t mean we cannot love them or pray for them. Sexual Perversion is a sin and like any other sin , it needs to be dealt with in the only way possible.

We should treat them with the same dignity as they would to anyone else because, whether we like it or not, they are made in the image of God.
