What is ASEAN Summit?

ASEAN Summit is an annual meeting held by the member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in relation to economic, and cultural development of Southeast Asian countries.

The league of ASEAN is currently connected with other countries who aimed to participate on the missions and visions of the league. Apparently, the league is conducting an annual meetings with other countries in an organization collectively known as the ASEAN dialogue partners. ASEAN +3 adds China, Japan and South Korea. The formal summit are held in three days. The usual itinerary are as follows:

- ASEAN leaders hold an internal organization meeting.
- ASEAN leaders hold a conference together with foreign ministers of the ASEAN Regional Forum.
- Leaders of 3 ASEAN Dialogue Partners (also known as ASEAN+3) namely China, Japan and South Korea hold a meeting with the ASEAN leaders.
- And a separate meeting is set for leaders of 2 ASEAN Dialogue Partners (also known as ASEAN+CER) namely Australia and New Zealand.
At the 23rd ASEAN Summit held recently in Brunei leaders of 10 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member countries discussed measures to reach the goal to build an ASEAN Community by 2015 and development directions for ASEAN after that.

Following the roadmap for building an ASEAN Community, politics and security, economy, and culture and society are major pillars of the ASEAN Community. Of these, the economic pillar led with about 80 percent of the tasks completed.
ASEAN leaders adopted a statement on their determination to build an ASEAN Community Vision after 2015.
Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung spoke at the 23rd ASEAN Summit underlining priority tasks and a strategic vision on building an ASEAN Community, which is united, connected, strong and able to develop its leading role in ensuring peace, security and prosperity in the region. The ASEAN Community must be able to unite member countries in terms of politics, connect them in terms of economicdevelopment, share social responsibilities, look to create benefits for people,develop its major role in the regional structure, and coping with existing challenges.
The 23rd ASEAN Summit also ratified many major statements, including those to boost cooperation in social security, young businesses, and prevention of natural disasters and uninfectious diseases.
Apart from the 23rd ASEAN Summit, a number of summits including ASEAN+3 Summit and East Asia Summit (EAS) were launched from October 9-10 in Brunei for the ASEAN and between the ASEAN and its partners including China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, the US and the United Nations./.
