What Is The Boy In The Striped Pajamas
The book I choose to read was “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” by John Boyne. This story takes place over in Berlin, Germany during WWII. The father is a commander for the Fury German army, so he moves his whole family right down the road from a concentration camp. He is married with a son Bruno and a daughter Gretel. The kids are unhappy about it and are confused on why they had to leave their home. When they move into the new house, the kids are told they are not to wonder off far from the house. One day Bruno gets bored just playing around the house, so he starts venturing off into the woods. He stumbles onto a fenced in area where men and boys are working. A little boy around his age starts talking to him. Bruno doesn’t understand why …show more content…
Bruno tells Shmuel this information on one of his regular visits, Shmuel gets upset and tells Bruno he can’t find his father. Both boys start talking about someday getting to play together. They come up with one last adventure where they can hang out together before Bruno must move away back home. There last adventure is Bruno helping Shmuel find his father in the concentration camp. For this to work Shmuel steals some striped pajamas and a cap that Bruno must wear so the soldiers don’t spot him. When Bruno shows up for their afternoon visit he changes into the pajamas and puts on the cap to match Shmuel. Bruno crawls underneath the fence, the boys set off to find Shmuel’s father.
As they are searching around to find Shmuel’s father it starts pouring down rain, Bruno gets worried and wants to leave. They hear the soldiers blowing their whistle so they start marching. Bruno is confused, but Shmuel tells him not to worry the marches don’t last long. Everyone, including both boys are marched into a gas chamber and killed. The German soldiers goes searching for him everywhere, but no one can find him they only stumbles on his pile of clothes that were left

Bruno noticed what he believed to be farmers living just past a stretch of woods near their new home. One day, not long after being told not to go near the “farmers,” Bruno leaves his home and heads towards the camp. There he meets Shmuel (Jack Scanlon), a young Jewish boy. While trying to understand what is happening in the world around them, the boys become friends. While…

What happens in the end of the novel,is that when Bruno moves somewhere else because his mother did not think living in Berlin was an appropriate place for Bruno and Gretel to be raised their mother did not want them to be mislead about what they have seen outside their windows, but of course Bruno had actually seen something totally different for himself when he was at the concentration camp to see his new friend shmuel. The characters Bruno and shmuel seem to change when they did not agree on certain things for instinct Bruno thought his father was a good man because he figured that his father had great power over the area they were in and shmuel thought that people like Bruno's father were cruel, rude and disrespectful.Bruno never understood…

Another reason Bruno’s innocence was poor was the fact that his innocence basically caused him to die. He was so uninvolved in the situation that he marched right into his death. In The Boy in The Striped Pajamas Shmuel and Bruno, being young boys who loved to explore, went looking for papa, and were in the wrong spot in the wrong time. The Nazi soldiers had every Jew in the surrounding area line up and start a…

Even though they are a more traditional family, the lack of connection between members is ever present. The novel is told in third person narrative style through the perspective of Bruno, with snippets of others opinions occasionally mentioned. This perspective is therefore skewed due to his age. As Bruno grows older he is included more into the family affairs but is still unaware of the harshness his father inflicts on the Jewish people on the other side of the fence. This is evident in the quotation “There aren’t any good soldiers.” repeated Shmuel. “Except Father” repeated Bruno. Which emphasises not only Bruno’s respect for his father but his naivety and…

The sadistic SS lieutenant beats to death the Jewish house servant, and following this Bruno discovers Schmuel working in his home. He gives him cake to eat, and at this point the lieutenant enters and notices the crumbs around Schmuel’s face. He accuses Schmuel of stealing food, and Schmuel denies it. He explains that he and Bruno are friends, and that this is why Bruno gave him the cake. Bruno is frightened of the lieutenant, and without regard for the consequences to his friend, he fears for himself and denies all knowledge of knowing Schmuel and says that he did not give him the cake.As children do, Bruno misunderstands the word and hears his new home referred to as “out with.” This implies that the story is based on Auschwitz…
