that stated, “All men are created equal…” and were restricted because of this being denied to them. It was shown in Iron Jawed Angels that women were not able to hold marches and protests without being attacked for showing what rights women had a right to. If men were the ones holding the marches, then they definitely would have gotten what they wanted. There was a big difference in the treatment of the men and the women and it was not going by the promises made by the founding documents. If it had been that “All men are created equal…” then women would have had their voting rights and wouldn’t have had to remain determined in trying to get their voting rights. Before the 1920s, women were denied their rights that had been set in paper and weren’t at all treated the same as men.
Women weren’t given the right to free speech and if they did speak out, they would have been punished or attacked by angered men. In the eyes of men and society, women were only good for being housewives and caring for their families. Nobody thought that women were ready to have their rights. Women should have been treated equal because it is stated that “All men are created equal…” but that right was denied. Men were allowed to do what they pleased, while women received backlash if they even thought about going against the society. Women were definitely denied their promised rights and it wasn’t until the 19th Amendment was passed that they could
vote.
