What Is The Deviant Place Theory Of Anthropology
In the documentary "The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan" Journalist Najibullah Quraishi investigates the cruel world of Afghanistan's cultural boy dancing. This involves the sale or kidnapping of young poverty stricken boys. Training of singing, dancing, and playing instruments. The entertainment to men, for weddings and other ceremonies while the boys are dressed in women's clothes, and the sexual abuse of the young boys. The "Deviant Place" victimization theory applies directly to the "Bacha Bazi" (boy dancing).The Deviant Place theory states that greater exposure to dangerous places makes an individual more likely to become the victim of a crime.

His father sold the young boy for a fee, that Dastager will pay him. The boy looked no older than nine years old. Shafik is from a low income neighborhood, stricken with poverty and violence, he has no choice in whether or not if he goes with Dastager. Sadly the young boy’s mother has no say in her husband’s decision. Shafik is a helpless victim that will go through immeasurable physical, psychological, and emotional pain.
When Dastager brings Shafik to see his family, he is brought to his house to see his parents and for Najibullah to speak with them. Najibullah asks what was then thought of as his father questions about what Shafik will be encountering in the life of Bacha Bazi, his "father" seems uncaring for the boy. When Najibullah asks the father if he knows what happens to Shafik, he gives the answer "We know, but, well, he's a boy". This shows that the boy’s background andhow the parents treat their kids is as if they are property, and without any worth. Najibullah also says that when he sees Shafik that day, he didn’t seem the same, it seemed as if something had happen to him, hinting that Dasager possibly had sexually abused him. Dastager also had seemed to be annoyed with the filming of him that day, possibly because he knew that Najibullah
