Have you ever seen I Am David or read the book? If you have, you could probably see a lot of differences between them. The plot is fairly similar, but the complications are different. The differences from the movie and the book can just pop out in front of your face, almost like its telling you that this is different. To start off, the setting of the story (book) I thought it would be some sort of dark pastels because how David’s mood is in the story I thought would change the setting. In the movie it was pretty colorful and very detailed. Italy was what I thought it to be, with its beautiful colors and how the landscape was formed, but Bulgaria, Salonika, and Switzerland seemed way different then what I did expect. Their landscape was rough and mainly forest while Italy was mostly city. The character changes and differences kind of got me mad. I thought that David would be a little smaller and just a tad bit chubbier by the cheeks. He does help people which is what I expected. He does have the same curiosity that I would’ve expected. David worships the God of still waters and green pastures and in the movie it’s St. Elizabeth. The differences were that the movie left out a couple of characters. The parts that weren’t in the movie were Johannes death, aboard the ship, In the town of Italy, and how David saved Maria. Johannes death in the book was caused by a heart attack and not because of stealing soap. When he is on the ship he doesn’t do anything including wine or magazines, but in the story he drinks the sailor’s wine. David also doesn’t stay in the cave inside the city at all, but he does get recaptured the escapes. There were a lot of flashbacks in the movie and I understand why they did that. They did that to give the audience background
