natural order of things, the children from the stories have died before their time, as well as before their parents, which creates the real tragedy for both of these stories while also bringing to light an interesting point to consider. When a closer look is taken at the couples, a question arises; are the females mentally and emotionally stronger in comparison to the males? Their reactions to the events from their stories say yes, they are. Sonu, from the true story, before she was hung said, “Okay, you can kill me. If what I have done is so bad, go on and kill me,” and put the noose around her own neck. Vishal on the other hand, said nor did anything.
Likewise, Juliet from Romeo and Juliet showed a higher level of emotional strength than Romeo when dealing with all of the misgivings that happened during the play. Romeo, upon discovering that instead of being killed, he would be banished, collapsed on the floor and started crying; when he discovered that a girl he liked did not share his affections, he moped around Verona all day because of it. Juliet on the other hand generally had more reasonable responses to her situations. Crying at the death of her cousins and the banishment of her husband, as well as having to make the difficult decision of whether to stay in Verona or give up everything in her life and follow Romeo were some of her reactions and decisions she had to make. In comparison, she had much greater emotional strength than Romeo. Two other strong females from the stories were Romeo and Vishal’s mothers who begged for the sparing of their sons lives. Vishal’s mother went against the ruling of her entire family as well as Sonu’s family to beg for her son’s life, and Romeo’s mother begged the Prince of Verona to change her son’s sentence, both proving that they were willing to stand up against what they didn’t believe to be
right.
