Jack and Corey both come off as strict men, but once introduced to the severity of each situation they leave all modern instincts behind. Rushed by the need to stay self-sustained they had both murdered two people (or, at least, Jack tried to murder the second), whether it was for water such as Corey or if it were out of intimidation and fear such as Jack. If there were any human part that they had initially held onto it was that they tried to portray themselves as someone they were not. Throughout both stories these two characters’ fight against ego to try and take hold of the power and control, but Id cannot take form of ego. They tried to portray that they had the ability to change into a man of law and order, but survival instincts push themselves forward. Even in both stories Jack and Corey had blatantly told the survivals to forget all laws and morality, and that survival could not be achieved if they were held down by
