What Is The Giver Persuasive Essay

The great Yogi Berra once said, “If the world was perfect, it wouldn’t be.” A perfect world won’t be perfect without some key objects or qualities. To live in a perfect world, you would need to give up your choices. In my opinion, giving up your choices to live in a perfect world will not be worth it at the end. If we lost our choices, we would lose the vision of seeing color, allowing your parents to choose your name, and knowing your true birthdate. Without color, life wouldn’t be the same. In my community, which isn’t a perfect world, unless you are color blind, you can see the beauty of the world in color. In the book, The Giver, only the Receiver and the Giver could see color. All of the other characters in the book could only see the world in black in white. An example in the book is when the Giver tells Jonas about Sameness. The Giver says, “We gained control of many things. We had to let go of others.” This means that in Sameness, they lost color and gained Sameness which is when the world is perfect and you give up your choices.
In my community, the parents have the opportunity to chose the child’s name before or after he or she is born. In The Giver, names are given at the Ceremony of Ones by the Nurturers. The Ceremony of Ones is when 1 year old babies are given their names and are given to their family units by the Nurturers. The Ceremonies are when all of the children under 12 are given new responsibilities. There is an example in the book of when Fiona, Jonas’ friend, doesn't like her brothers name and says, “He’s cute, but I don’t like his name very much.” This quote from the book means that she didn’t like her brother’s name given by the Nurturers at The Ceremony of
