Is this true or is it the fact that Madeline hasn’t been drinking any blood lately. I believe that Madeline is a blood seeking monster who hasn’t gotten her healthy serving of blood in a while. Even if it isn’t because she hasn’t had blood in a while most vampires look pale and sickly anyways. In the story it says, “There was blood upon her white robes”. This is leads me to believe that as Madeline escaped her tomb she went through the house on a murder spree killing and sucking the blood out of everyone who was in the Usher estate at the time. After she makes her way to the room where Roderick is, she tackles him to the ground to punish him for burying her alive. Roderick also says that Madeline spends most of her days sleeping in her bedroom. This could just be her being nocturnal like most vampires are. Incest also plays a big role in the story. Roderick Usher as I already mentioned loves his sister as a family member and also somewhat of a wife. Since she can’t go outside Roderick may also be inclined to stay inside and this is why he looks so pale and sickly as …show more content…
In his poem he reads to the narrator he says, “But evil things, in robes of sorrow, assailed the monarch’s high estate”. This implies that the Usher Estate was once great until evil things came and ruined it. The evil things also came in robes of sorrow. These things could be vampires. They could have infected the family line of the Usher’s. This could’ve possible lead to Madeline being a vampire. Roderick also said that the house used to be great and the vampires infecting the blood line even further proves the fact that the usher house and family blood line was ruined. Although Madeline could have been trying to reproduce and make more vampire Ushers. When she enters the room where the narrator is reading Roderick a story at the end of the story she collapses on top of him. The story never depicts what exactly Madeline does. She could’ve been biting Roderick and turn him into a vampire. Then as both of them as vampires they could reproduce and continue the Usher Family line only with the exception of all of them being vampires. Another example of why Madeline is a hemoglobin craving beast is the fact that see escaped her tomb. In the story the narrator and Roderick bury her in the basement inside a wooden coffin. If it wasn’t hard enough to get out of the coffin the fact that the walls and ceiling were made out of copper and there was a heavy metal door sealing the basement off makes this escape better than any of
