And if they are causing you to be more alert minded, that is more of a reason to take into consideration the reason why this truth exist in favor a basketball. Surely the lids of the future and youth impact is the primary way to measure success. Middle class and low class children in today's society face more challenges now than ever because technology has caused them to grow up quicker. Allow me to share some common perspectives from middle and low class children in today's society, in regards to how basketball affect their lives. ¨If you grow up in a single parent home and your mother is making just enough money to provide for you, your brothers, and sisters while working two jobs and putting in overtime on the weekends, surely life seems HOPELESS.…
As a fourth grader, being told that “winning isn’t everything” was a little hard to believe. Only recently do I realize how true this statement is and how important it is to learn this. I believe that in playing sports, what is most important is improving oneself, working as a team, and demonstrating good sportsmanship. Playing CBAA basketball has taught me these values and has played a large role in shaping me into the humble and compassionate person that I am today.…
I thank my dad for bringing out the skill and mindset of an athlete. I not only use my competitive nature on the field but I also utilize it in the classroom. When I was younger, I would despise the person who got a higher grade than me. I wouldn't actually hate them, I would hate that they beat me. But when I would get the highest grade in the class I would feel like I had won the championship football game.…
a. Playing men’s basketball in college was a wonderful opportunity for me on several levels. It provided an opportunity that pushed me to work harder than I have ever worked before and it challenged me, mentally and physically. Playing college basketball taught me how to work hard, even when the results may not be immediate, or visible, right away. From this experience, I learned how to compete on the daily basis, while at the same time working together with my team to push each other to become better as a unit.…
I played basketball for all four years of my high school. I was on the freshman team my freshman year, Junior Varsity team my sophomore year, and played Varsity my junior and senior year. My freshman year I was voted team captain and that helped me gain leadership skills and communication skills. I earned the award of honorable mentioned in basketball. In Basketball I practiced a lot, because I knew I could get better. Throughout basketball we had several coaching changes. We had Mr. Smith then Mr. Parker and now Mrs. Smith as coaches. Having a different coach every year I feel like it was making it more difficult for the players to grow as a team and ourselves. Each coach had very different ways of teaching the game. Even though it was hard to have coaches leave we also gained different amounts of knowledge from each one, which I thought was a great privilege to get to…
First of all, playing sports is one of my favorite things to do. They teach me discipline and I must do and Not do what coach says. Sports also teach me good sportsmanship. I learn to love the game by playing my opponent/friends and showing how to take a win or loss. Last year playing basketball we didn’t lose but one game, I was devastated. I like to think I took the Loss ok but I just blamed it all on myself. I got to show my winning spirts in a ton of games that season, and I think I showed my happiness well. Our team didn’t brag or show off we simply just played our game, and the results turned out as they may.…
Basketball is a sport that is dominated by incredible work ethics and the practice of basic techniques. Not ever has a player truly become a star overnight and success is granted to only those who strive for it. In the words of Michael Jordan himself I quote, “some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” Now I have only one question left to ask. Do you want to be the best player you can be? If your answer is yes then I urge to beyond belief that if you learn, live, and love these skills, I see no reason why you can’t be a great…
How have sports impacted in your life? An issue that is hotly debated is if children should be a part of a competitive sports team. Kids can get seriously hurt and have too much pressure, so they quit. There are some cons about playing on a competitive sports team, but there are also pros. Children get stronger, develop social skills, learn leadership, etc. Both sides of the debate have some very important factors, but one side seems to be a little more important. I think that children should be on a competitive sports team because it prevents obesity, you learn how to socialize and work with your teammates, and you learn how to accept criticism.…
The majority of athletes think failing is not losing a game or missing a basket; however, a player has failed once they quit or give up. Learning from the mistakes made and improving yourself is what should be done instead. If someone were to never mess up, how would they ever improve? The world will not end if you don’t win a basketball game, for it’s an opportunity given to give it another go. By learning that at a young age through sports, kids can apply it to everyday life in their future careers. When the ones who grew up learning this lesson fail a test or don’t get the promotion at work, they will know the right way to handle…
Over the course of these years my parents were always busy taking my teammates and I to games and practices. Although my father was the head coach, it was my mother who did majority of the transportation. She often had to reschedule her entire work and school schedule around my practices and games. The team mother was often what she was called. Often my little brother would tag along to games and practices. He would sometimes have the opportunity to practice with the older boys when he could, which in the long run allowed him to become an awesome player himself.…
On the 20th of October, 1998, the world was blessed with a talented basketball player. (That would be me.) Growing up, I didn’t really have reasons to like basketball. My family did not play or have interest in any kind of sport, besides for my father turning on the Lakers game once in a while. So my influence had to come about from a mishap. A mishap I am very thankful for. The television was playing the Lakers game in my living room one night when my attention was caught by an astonishing performance by a player wearing the number 8. Shot after shot he would score with emphasis, scowling after each basket. This player was arguably one of the greatest professional basketball players still to this day, Kobe Bryant. It was at this moment that…
Since I was 7 years old, basketball has played an integral part of my life. I have devoted countless hours to not just a sport, but a passion, an outlet; to the game that I love. When I arrived at Bow Middle School as a fifth grader, my classmates and I would always look up to the 7th and 8th grade middle school basketball teams. Every year during winter carnival, the boys and girls teams would play a game in front of the entire school. Playing in that game became a dream and a goal of mine, but first I would need to make the team. For three years I developed my basketball skills, using my passion for the sport and desire to play in that game as motivation. When tryouts for basketball in 8th grade drew near, I knew I was ready. However a new coach would be at the helm this year. Our new basketball coach was also a coach for the youth football program. This resulted in numerous football…
My passion for basketball began in the 7th grade. My middle school was having tryouts for our schools team and I had grown up shooting in my driveway almost everyday. Practicing for the chance of being a Bronco basketball player (Our schools mascot). Coach had set up tryouts for two days. The first being a open tryout, and the second the final people he wanted to choose from. In short, I did not make it past the first day. The coach didn't see the potential in me. I was hurt but inside I knew that I would push myself and make the team the next year.…
Since the 2nd grade I have been in love with the game of basketball. My love for the game, along as myself as a person, has grown and gone through a lot of change since my first time touching a basketball over ten years ago. Basketball in my life has possibly changed more in the past year than the rest of my life combined, which has allowed me to learn more about myself, both on and off the court.…
