There were many different types of aircraft in the 30’s. Travel was a luxury back in the 1930’s. Aircraft weren’t very big, they could only hold 10-15 people per plane. You were a very lucky person to travel in an airplane, most people who were lucky enough to ride in one had to had a lot of money. Back then, it was considered a privilege to ride on an airplane. Airlines would serve food to the passengers on their journey, the passengers thought that flying was an enjoyable experience. Air travel became more popular over the years and manufacturers like Boeing had to design bigger aircraft.

speed. Pilots like adrenaline like everyone else. So they buy sports planes to enter in races or for just recreational use. Planes like the Wedell Williams Model 45 were common race planes. The Model 45’s cruising speed is around 300 mph. Its was designed to go fast and make sharp corners, there was more than 200 built. The base price for this particular model was around $15,000. There were many crashes related to this aircraft so it stopped production about 1935.
By the time WWII started the United States had many planes in service, with varying roles in the war. An aircraft whom had a unique role in the war was the Boeing 314 Clipper. This plane was able to land and take off in water, which made it ideal for the United States Army. The 314 Clipper was a giant airplane with four engines, it had a wingspan of 149 feet and a top speed of almost 200 mph. That’s pretty fast saying that it can haul up to 77 passengers and had 4,246 gallons of fuel on board.
The 1930’s has many interesting things that happened during that time period and it affects how we see the World today.
It was a tough time for Americans, we went through the stock market crash and led up to The Great Depression. The types of planes that were designed in the 30’s were very unique from the kind of planes we see today. These kinds of planes weren’t just for hauling people around, they had a very more significant purpose then that. They helped us fight the wars, and kept us entertained while we watched them at races. Airplanes have many duties in the 1930’s and you can see that planes are very much still in use
today.
