Thank you for your post. I liked your answer to my question. I agree with you that if one were confident with themselves, they will not “follow” others and therefore the differential association theory would not explain deviant actions. It is funny that you brought up the speed limit question. I was driving home from work yesterday and everybody was speeding. I was thinking of how deviant they were! I had never thought of speeding as a deviant act until the activities inventory assignment last week.…
Believe it or not speeding is the third leading contributing factor in car accidents. On average, more than 33% of car accidents are caused from not following the proper speed limit. The consequences from getting in a…
Over 10,000 people died in speed related accidents in 2009 in the United States. Now let’s fast forward to 2013 when The National Safety Council estimated that 35,200 people died in U.S traffic accidents; plus there were about 3.8 billion crash injuries requiring medical attention. An official from the agency blamed majority of it on human error (speeding). People disobey speed limits for some of the same reasons they break other laws. Its gives them a sense of power and that they are in control of their actions when it comes to testing the limits. Why aren’t drivers abiding by the speed limit while driving? Is it because they are late for work or an appointment and or for their own physiological emergency? Every speeding has completely diverse reasons under specific circumstances.…
Maintaing the speed limit as it is will be more effective than to lower the speed limit for various reasons. Reasons such as it will make less traffic, keep drivers focused, and allow people to get to their destinations faster. Also making the speed limit higher will force cars that drive on highways and interstates to be more reliable and better maintenance. This will lower break downs onn high ways and interstates because people will think twice before they drive their irreliable vehicle on the interstate or high way. Then people wil start to make sure their car can with stand such conditions.…
Speeding is a serious offence. Obey the speed limit. Did you know on average 5 people die every day in the UK because of speeding? You might just be running late for a meeting or just wanting to go fast. Wouldn’t you rather be late or just slow down? Instead, you’re risking your life and the lives of others. Speeding is the most common and dangerous offence on our roads.…
Speeding is defined as “exceeding the posted speed limit, driving too fast for conditions, or racing” and is a dangerous driving behavior. Despite progress in other areas, such as increased seat belt usage and fewer drunken driving deaths, speeding continues to be a major factor in about one-third of traffic fatalities. Speeding is an offense that’s not only dangerous to the one committing the crime, but also to all those that are surrounding the offender. There are signs posted on the side of the road for a reason. They control the traffic flow and keep accidents to a minimum. Going over these regulated speed zones is dangerous because if there is an obstacle that suddenly appears and you’re going too fast to avoid it then that is an equation for disaster. You could damage your vehicle or worse, harm yourself or somebody else. To help enforce the speeding laws the police department assigns districts to the policemen and women to help catch and correct people who end up trying to break the law whether it be intentional or not. Speeding is a crime that when it is being broken is dangerous to more than one party. That may be the reason why it’s taken so seriously and is enforced at a higher…
I totally agree with your comments about speeding I to find myself not paying attention to my speed. I also noticed that when I’m listening to certain songs it makes me drive faster because of the beat or the words. Motivating yourself to exercise is very hard i recently started running more and I haven’t been able to lately and I have noticed that I just don’t want to run now.…
Several key findings emerged from the exploratory analysis. Firstly, mean analysis on the number of accidents relative to the presence of speed limits suggests that limits do reduce the number of accidents. The mean number of accidents with limits was -18.9 and 18.4 in 1961 and 1962 respectively compared with 23.9 and 22.5 without limits. Looking at these figures there is also an indication of there being fewer accidents on average in 1962 than 1961. In total, across both years, the number of accidents with limits in place was 18.4 per day compared to 23.4 without limits - this is 5 more accidents per day without limits.…
This morning while we were serving breakfast, one of our teachers got hit by another driver just across the street. The speed limit during the school hours is 20mph and this person was speeding and he didn’t make the stop sign. The teacher had only a few scratches and a sore arm.…
You’ve seen them on the highway. Many drivers ignore the speed limit and drive 10, 20 and sometimes 30 mph over the limit. Speed kills, and traveling above the speed limit is an easy way to cause a car accident. The faster you drive, the slower your reaction time will be if you need to prevent an auto accident.…
Speeding falls in the category of a dangerous driving habit. It is most dangerous in residential neighborhoods where children play along the road. Again, it is risky while entering and exiting roads. While speeding, a driver will fail to see impending risks. For example, a child riding a bicycle may stumble and fall. A driving who is speeding may not be able to break in time and knock the child. . Indicators were designed to help drivers give notice of their intention. Failure to use signs is a risk to pedestrians and other road users. Correct use of indicators will help to avoid accidents. The least that drivers can do is indicate properly while using the roads. Selfish drivers who are fond of using overlapping or undertaking also contribute to road accidents. These drivers loose patience when in traffic and engage in this irritating habit. Other drivers also lack the discipline to stay in their own lanes. They shift from one lane to another…
A signification number of cases happen due to the fact that drivers break the traffic rules. For example, a lot of drives drive too close to the front cars. Also some drivers turn vehicles to another lane improperly. For the extreme cases, some drivers participate in car racing illegally or drink driving. Moreover, many passengers ignore the safety rule and refuse to wear seat belts. In case of accident, they can’t be protected and probably get wounded or even die.…
The most distinguished cause of accidents is speeding. People speed for many different reasons. Most of the time people don’t give themself enough time to get somewhere so they tend to rush. Another cause would be those who have a need for speed while showing off their car. Most of the time while people are speeding they don’t factor in having to make an abrupt stop. This results in the driver hitting another driver or roadway and ultimately hurting themself.…
The over cautious driver; this type of driver also has the tendency to frustrate other drivers, especially the inconsistent driver. They seem to always be under the speed limits, even if they are doing the speed limit. This type of driver will always drive slow, even if startled. Driving with caution is not a bad thing, especially while in construction zones, at the scene of an accident, or inclement weather, but to drive like it's the blizzard of '98 on every passage is not correct. Flowing with traffic has to happen as well as being alert and aware. So if the flow of traffic is 15 mph under the speed limit, flow…
Many a time drivers don’t take into consideration about their speed limit. They tend to speed ignorantly on the roads not following the speed limit. In this case they are basically over speeding on the road not only putting themselves at risk but also the passengers and the pedestrians. Thus, in many cases over speeding leads to careless accidents that also leads to deaths on our roads.…
