This research project will aim to explore the impact of paid additional adults within the classroom on teachers and pupils in their day to day lives within an educational setting. The project will be conducted in posy primary settings from local schools from the area in which the researcher lives.
Teaching assistants have been a feature of post primary schools within Northern Ireland for many years. Their introduction has impacted the schooling experience of pupils and teachers in a variety of educational settings, with more and more assistants being deployed into the classroom. The overall aim of this project is to critically examine the impact teaching assistants have on both pupils and teachers in their study and delivery of the curriculum within a post primary setting. This aim will be achieved by reviewing the relevant literature and by collecting and analysing data from mixed method approach; using both qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate the behaviour, activities and experiences of teachers, pupils and classroom assistants in two post primary schools. …show more content…

Do the teachers taking part in the study know how to make effective use of classroom assistants when teaching a class and how effective do they teaching assistant in helping the performance of a pupil?
2. What are the pupil’s perceptions and experiences of having a teaching assistant?
3. What tasks and activities do the teaching assistants undertake in their day to day job?
4. Do classroom assistants feel adequately trained to deal with particular needs of children and how much are they involved in the process of deciding a learning path for the
child.
