Ethos is the credibility of the author or speaker; this is important because if people don’t trust you they won’t trust what you say or write. Previous actions and a person’s reputation affect their credibility. Patrick Henry started his speech by proving he should be trusted by claiming “No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism”. This shows he is very patriotic and supports others that share his perspective. He was known to strongly support his ideas and disliked how Britain ruled the colonies.…

This public service announcement is a response to the need for change, regarding the distribution of wealth in the U.S. “The latest data shows that roughly 75 percent of the financial wealth in America is held in the hands of the top 10 percent of households. Or to invert this, 25 percent of all US wealth is divided up amongst the bottom 90 percent of the population.” (MyBudget360, 2013). Why should only 10% of Americans deserve 75% of the wealth? We are all supposed to be treated equally, yet only an elite, wealthy few are afforded privileges due to their financial status. In my view, the rich are in power and influence the most change, and it’s usually to help them become even richer.…

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” is an emotional letter about the trials and tribulations of the African American people. He wrote this piece to fellow clergymen to address their concerns regarding the 1963 nonviolent direct-action demonstrations in Birmingham, AL. However, aside from advertisements regarded only through nostalgia, the greatest impact stems from the evoked emotion – typically, the pathos.…
