By Der Schulungsbrief The article "Primary sources: Letter from a German soldier during World War II", adapted by Newsela, was taken from a letter from a German soldier who wrote to his family and was published in a government newspaper, Der Schulungsbrief, this letter it contained a history of patriotism and loyalty to his country, Germany, and to the leader Adolf Hitler. In addition, he mentioned to his wife that she had to be strong and protect herself and their children, since he was fighting for them and trying to regain control, since Germany was losing control of their lands during the war. Therefore, I believe that the soldier’s affirmation is strong because he includes …show more content…
reasons in which he explains to his wife everything that was happening. Adding to that, reasons such as how he is fighting for the homeland of all Germans. It also provides an encouraging points to his wife about what she should do in order to maintain brave and secure with their children. One of the pieces of evidence that were mentioned throughout this document was,”Their attack was in vain, their sacrifice forgotten.
It was broken against our powerful weapons, against our strength, against our will, against our faith, which is stronger than any challenge. For in our hearts is Germany, the Germany that must live, Germany that is you and the children. We carry you in our hearts. We fight and sacrifice and bleed for you. We never weaken for a second, for you must be protected.” This means in other words that the soldier had a clear patriotic mood where he feels that to fight for your country and your land, means that you are making the lost lives worth and considered in vain count, because the children of future generations would live in a solid and strong country, as for his peers and him, they are doing all they can to put up with the fight. Furthermore, another piece of evidence grounds the soldiers claim was, ”My dear wife, now you suddenly face problems that you have never before had. They are similar to the problems we soldiers face every day, to give up what is most dear to hold on to life. Will you fail this hour of trial? Were that to happen, you would not be my wife, because I know that you will remain brave.” Therefore, the soldier is putting his family aside because he relies on a wife to protect his children, as he beliefs she is strong and courageous since she has faced many difficulties just like soldiers, and to move on no matter what
happens. Finally, in an overall reasoning of all this, the soldier claims that there are reasons in which he explains to his wife everything that was happening within his experience in war and what might happen. Adding to that, he also provides an important suggestions to his wife about how she should act in order to maintain brave composure and full safety of their children. The evidence relates and support the argument because one the first piece, the soldier had a clear patriotic sense of what should be done, where he feels that when you fight for your homeland, it means that you are making the lost and sacrificed lives and considered in vain worth, because the children of generations yet to come would live in a well- country, as for his fellow soldiers and him, they are doing all they can to put up with the fight. Adding to that, he has faith in his wife on taking care of the children as he beliefs she is brave and realistic of what is yet to come, with or without her husband, she must move on with her life with their children.
