The Storm by Kate Chopin illustrated an adulterous affair between two Acadians in the heart of Louisiana. Chopin began by introducing the reader to Calixta and her family—her husband Bobinôt and their son Bibi. Bobinôt and Bibi were at a local store purchasing goods when, suddenly, a burst of wind flung the doors open. A storm was approaching, and they were forced to wait it out while Calixta remained at home alone. Calixta hastily secured the home by closing all the windows and doors. Then Calixta saw her old lover, Alcée Laballière, approaching—he was seeking shelter from the rain.
