The author of the short story ‘Going somewhere’ uses key language features and phrases to convey the audience of his/her message to anyone could be homeless and how quickly your life can change. The author displays this throughout the story with a man that had a purpose to than a man that’s life has drastically changed from what it used to be and is represented in an implicit view the shows this with quotes as calling the man a “stylish” person to than being later called a “unkempt” with an animal aroma, This is described by Laurie throughout the story judging the man.

This is showed with Laurie describing the man in the suit as “stylish, unmistakably good and disconcertingly blue eyes with coppery hair and beard”, Laurie later observes the man in the suit by smell and appearance “twigs in his hair” “the suit became dirty and ragged” “ravaged eyes, sickened by animal smell”. The author uses this to perceive the audience into conceiving that homelessness is not just from a stereotype but could happen for other unfortunate reasons, the author uses this to position us to have a personal experience to what is happening with the man in the suit and trying to teach the audience about the decision that Laurie did and how they affect the readers in a certain way, and how it can change the audience as a person as well being an important individual that is cast in society
