"The Way We Live Now" by Susan Sontag is primarily a story about an unnamed mans struggle with a suspected illness. Sontag explains the struggle of the unnamed mans sickenss through his circle of friends. The main character had severeal unhealthy habits and lived a very risky lifestyle. Because of his choice of lifestyle, he gained many friends. The main characters illness brings him closer to his friends. Sontag chose to tell the story from the perspective of the patients friends to to emphasize the tradgedy of illness. Sontag gains many things by crafting the story in this manner.
