Richard Connell, the author of The Most Dangerous Game implies that people need to hunt or be hunted in order to stay alive through becoming insane.
Connell depicts the characters in The Most Dangerous Game as people who used to be sane but are now insane. While Rainsford is in being hunted by General Zaroff, he is slowly but surely turning into a lunatic in order to keep himself alive. Connell writes, “to this end, he had plunged along, spurred by the sharp rowels of something very like panic”(Connell 28). Connell highlights Rainsford’s transition in becoming deranged with “plunged along” and “spurred by the sharp rowells”. While he could have chose to stay sane, his mind got the best of him,
