Butte College Perspective Paper The psychodynamic perspective was developed from Freud’s psychoanalysis theory with the belief that the unconscious mind may have influences over conscious behavior and on how early childhood experiences can help shape the unconscious forces. Freud’s psychoanalysis theory is although very similar to the psychodynamic perspective, yet is more limited as it focuses mainly on sexual motivations of people, and how everything that is done by a person is of a sexual nature. The psychodynamic perspective is more broader as it does not believe that sex is the only motivation that people are driven by. The psychodynamic perspective was chosen as my topic of choice because of the ideal of childhood experiences having an effect on a person’s unconscious and conscious behavior. The subsystems are categorized as a series of layers, which shows a framework of human development processes that ties into a child’s development and growth; as stated by Mary Gauvain, & Michael Cole (2004).
These layers consist of the microsystem, which are variables that children are directly exposed to like family, school, and neighbors; the mesosystem, which are interconnections between the microsystem, like interactions between family and teachers, and relationships between peers and family members; the exosystem, which are the institutions of society that indirectly affect a child’s development, like the caregivers work place, or funding for education; and the macrosystem, which are cultural context that provides the values, beliefs, customs, and laws of the culture in which a child grows
