What Is The Relationship Between Bilbo And Gandalf?
After the great battle and their goodbyes to the dwarves, Bilbo and Gandalf were on their way home. Bilbo expected Gandalf to stay with him the whole journey back home. When Bilbo and Gandalf left the lonely mountain Bilbo was stopped by Gandalf.
“Bilbo, I’m sorry to say I can’t stay with you on your journey home.”
“Why?” Bilbo asked. Bilbo was shocked. He now has to go on the journey back home alone.
“ I have my own battle to fight Bilbo and I cannot bring you with me,” Gandalf said. Gandalf truly did have his own battles to fight, the dark forces were getting too strong for Gandalf to ignore. Bilbo couldn’t be mad or irked by Gandalf, he knew he had his own reasons to leave. Bilbo sadly said his goodbyes to Gandalf. Now Bilbo was on his

Bilbo then took out his ring from his pocket. “Should I have given the ring to Gandalf?” Bilbo thought. “ I should have told Gandalf that I have the ring.” While Bilbo was too distracted by his ring he didn’t notice the sound of running feet. Bilbo was still deep in thought when he looked up. Bilbo soon noticed that these mysterious elves he has never seen before were circulating around him. These mysterious elves have swords and arrows ready to shoot at Bilbo. Bilbo quickly gained focus and put on the ring that he had in his hand luckily. Bilbo thought he was now invisible so he slowly started walking. He noticed that the elves have no confusion on their faces and were still aiming directly where he …show more content…
Zonger then noticed Bilbo was truly a harmless Hobbit just like the rest of the Hobbits he had read about. Zonger left Bilbo to talk to the Elvenking and queen. He was very respected by the Elvenking and queen and Zonger have never been wrong before. So when Zonger asked them to release Bilbo because he is no harm so, they did just that. Bilbo was ecstatic to find out he was free. Bilbo still had one question on his mind. “ Why didn’t the rings work on the Rockwood elves land?” Bilbo asked Zonger that exact question when he was about to leave. Bilbo was not scared that Zonger would try to take the ring. He had a feeling Zonger already knew about the ring. Zonger truly did know about the

Shortly thereafter his was arguably forced into an adventure with a pack of dwarves along with a wizard. Throughout this entire journey, Bilbo becomes more and more courageous and even went so far as to meet with leaders of an opposing army and say “This is the Arkenstone of Thrain… I give it to you. It will aid you in your bargaining. ”(271) This is showing that despite him possibly risking capture or death, he still has enough courage to help end a needless war between his group’s army and the elven-human’s army.…

Gollum wouldn't help him find his way out, he just wanted to eat Bilbo. When bilbo found the ring he was invisible and could escape from the goblins and Gollum who wanted to kill him. The ring saved Bilbo's life so he could return to the dwarves and help the, get their kingdom back. "Slipping in and out of the shadows of the trees, running quick and quiet, and keeping out of the sun; so soon they went back grumbling and cursing to guard the door. Bilbo had escape," pg. 84. If Bilbo hadn't found the ring and became invisible he would have never been able to escape because Gollum would have eaten him. This examples shows how he was more of a protagonist, finding a way out of a situation for the good, because without Bilbo the dwarves couldn't complete their…

In support of this, in the novel, it states how Bilbo kept a secret from Thorin of the Arkenstone he had stolen. He sneakily traded with Bard, knowing that Thorin was not a fan of sharing gold, which Bilbo felt that him and the dwarves deserved. He did not know the Battle of Five Armies would become a result of his sly moves (Tolkien). This highlights how Bilbo made a sacrifice and put his friendship on the line with this betrayal and lie. Bilbo develops as a hero because he believes of the greater good and depends on his own morals, trying his best to avoid conflict. This time, instead of relying on his usual group, like he would have, he ignores the view of others and stands up for himself and his morals. Middle Earth was impacted by his actions since Bilbo now uses his traits of being a burglar in hand and changes himself with strategies. Overall, Baggins was in a difficult position, but the way he was able to escape shows how he has improved from old, scared, Hobbit-Hole Bilbo to a one of a kind…

“Soon the goblins had a ring of smoke and flame all round the dwarves, a ring which they kept from spreading outwards; but it closed slowly until the running fire was licking the fuel piled under the trees. Smoke was in Bilbo’s eyes, he could feel the heat of the flames( even though he was so high up in the trees); and through the reek he could see the goblins dancing round and round in a circle like people round a midsummer bonfire. Outside the ring of dancing warriors stood the wolves at a respectful distance watching and waiting to devour the first person that dropped dead out of the treetops. Bilbo could hear the goblins beginning a horrible song, and with that the flames were under Gandalf the wizards tree. In a moment it caught the others and went up like a rocket, when it was just beneath Bilbo’s, he closed his eyes, ready to die when...” As it can be seen Biblo and company were in many tight spots throughout this adventure, and he could not have done it all on his own. That is where Bilbo had to use the three themes of luck, courage and good sense to overcome evil and stay alive.…

In the beginning of the novel, Gandalf and the dwarves sweep Bilbo away from his town on an exciting adventure to claim the treasures once stolen from the dwarves by a very dangerous dragon. Along the way, Bilbo is clearly showing signs of annoyance towards the quest… “Bother burgling and everything to do with it! I just wish I were back home in my little hobbit-hole…” This quote infers that Bilbo is displeased and unimpressed about being “forced” to travel with the dwarves on their quest. This quote also shows that Bilbo is showing signs of being a coward. He is saying that he is tired [and perhaps cold because of the weather conditions], doesn’t get enough to eat – unlike back at home – and is altogether sick of this quest.…
