What Is The Relationship Between Caaddy's Relationship In The Sound And The Fury

The Sound and the Fury by William Falkner, is full of family connections that allows one to deeper understand the time period of the book. Although the family does not really work together, each character has a reason to be in the family. Although, the character, Caddy Compson never has her own section in the novel, telling her side of the story, she is one of the most important characters that truly helps, confuses, and changes the course of the novel. Caddy is seen as a promiscuous lady whom does not act lady-like, especially as she grows older in this time period. The relationship comes to an end when they find out the father of the child is indeed not Herbert Head and rather an unknown man. Caddy decides to have the child, but due to the fact she never truly had a mother, Caddy does not act like one to her daughter, Miss Quentin. Miss Quentin stays in the family but rather than staying with Caddy, she stays with Mrs.Compson due to Caddy’s departure from the family. Once again however, the audience sees Caddy’s heart when she tries to send money to Jason in the hopes that Miss Quentin would be getting the money. Instead of this happening though, Jason takes the money and keeps it for himself and decides to not share it with the rest of the family. Jason is another one of Caddy’s men, but she is not aware of that. Jason talks about Caddy in many sexual ways, saying “….” however, the audience is not sure whether he is ultimately talking about Caddy or just personifying girls as a whole. Jason see’s girls as sexual deviants whom he can get whatever he wants out of and uses Caddy to show his thoughts on this in a rather disturbing manner.
