Did you know that people in Concentration camps not only got diseases but also starved to death? Firstly, we need to know what the Concentration camps were like so we know the conditions they went through. Secondly, we need to know how much food they got per day and how much carbs and fattening foods they got. Lastly we need to know why the Nazis starved the Jews when they were at the camps.
Firstly, the Ghettos were your worst nightmare. They were blocked off with walls, barbed wire fences, or gates so nobody could get out. Overcrowding was very common. “At its peak the Warsaw ghetto had 500,000 people- about 40 percent of the population of Warsaw- crowded into a comprising less than 5 percent of the area of the city” (Winick 1). Their plumbing always broke down, so they were forced to throw their garbage and human waste into the streets. So this led to diseases and very unsanitary conditions. Some Nazi Gestapo officials and Nazi physicians had a meeting. “They had calculated that if the inhabitants of the ghetto received no more than 800 calories of low- protein food per day, the entire population would be dead in nine months” (Winick 1). That was the Nazis plan to completely obliterate the population of Jews. However, they did not take into consideration on how much ingenuity the Jews had. So they finally decided to change their tactics and they deported Jews to death camps. The Jews only lasted a couple of weeks in the death camps which surprised the world. After this was over and all the Jews were eliminated, the Nazis went to the camps and razed all of the camps and also killed all that was left of the Jews.
