With both of the stories there was respect being shown in, the “Drummer and Bells open Indian Museums” there was respect being shown while they walked by in the parade. With “The Medicine Cabinet”, …show more content…
in the beginning he didn't like the fact that grandpa looked the way he did but as you keep reading he mixed he doesn’t know what to think about grandpa, but then he goes to and come to think about it, the narrator really does care about his grandpa, he's just “scared” to show it cause he is still embarrassed.
In the begging of the story “The Medicine Bag”, Martin, talks about the grandpa,at first in my opinion, I think he didn't want anything to do with the grandpa he acted as if he didnt care about him, but he would talk about him as if he was a “true” Indian, but really isn't, he I guess you can say different, he doesn’t live in a tepee he lives in half a log and half tar-paper shack on Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. I think you can call him different, Right? But ,moving right along to “Drums and Bells open Indian Museums”, they go on to talk about how many people they expect to show up at the Museum all year around and to show that these people that once went to or went to, are actually interested in going, to see how they lived with clothing and food, and how half the parade goes.
In the story “The Medicine Cabinet” Martin acted as if he “liked” his great-grandfather, turns out he was embarrassed of him because, he didn’t want anyone looking at the pictures he had of him, “he didn’t live in a tepee, but all by himself in a part log, part tar-paper shack on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota”, he didn’t like the fact that he was “old”, and finally “His hair wasn’t in braids but hung in stringy gray strands on his neck”, he was a real Indian he just didn’t want to show it.
For the “Drums and Bells open Indian Museum”, while some of the parade is going through Pamela Best Minick said “To come home the same way and have people not laugh but respect you - it shows we’ve come full circle.” I think he’s trying to say that after not being “home” in a very long time he appreciates what these people are …show more content…
doing.
With these quotes, the reason I have chosen them is because they have a lot of effect on the begging of the story/article. For example with “The Medicine Cabinet” I thought he hated his grandfather, the way he sad those things behind his back, weren't nice, then goes onto say he doesn’t let his friends see the pictures because they “would have laughed at the picture, because Grandpa wasn’t tall and stately like TV Indians. To me thats down right rude and disrespectful to your family.another example, with the “Drums and Bells Open Indian Museums” I think the reason why it had an effect on the story is because, the way it was said it’s like he was grateful that people didn’t laugh and say names, I think that’s what he expected to happen, he expected to see people making fun of their hats and and their clothing.
In conclusion, these parts of the stories are opposite directions and I didn’t see it coming.
In the middle between both stories there’s going to be so many new details can’t wait to share!
The quotes that I think are most important are when grandpa says “I have come because it is soon time for Martin to have the medicine bag”, (from “The Medicine Cabinet)
The next quote is when Lyle Cook said,” We do it not to serve the United States, but to protect our people. This is still our land, even if it is called the United States.”(from “ Drums and Bells Open Indian Museum.”
The reason why these quotes really stick out to me is because, with “The Medicine Cabinet” it makes me sad he’s basically going to be pass away soon. It just makes me sad to really think about. With “Drums and Bells Open Indian Museum”, it makes me start to think who had the United states before we went out and fought for it? For these sections of the book I think, they make you think because some of the thing that are said they don’t have very much background.
In conclusion, both of these quotes are starting to get to the reason why you have to respect other os we or starting to get on the right
track!!
Now we have come to the end of the book where things start to finally make sense, you will understand things better. (at least that’s how I feel). But anywho, lets keep this train on the road!!
The quotes I have chosen are “That night Mom and Dad took Grandpa to the hospital. Two weeks later I stood alone on the lonely prairie of the reservation and put the sacred sage in my medicine bag”(from “The Medicine Bag”)
The next quote I have chosen is, “Only 400 years after the Old World collided with their world , the native people of this land became America’s first endangered species.”- Mr.Campbell.
The reason why I used these quotes is because, with “The Medicine Bag” that's basically there way of saying that the grandpa died, now i'm questioning the story, did he die because of old age? Did he die because he went on a long adventure to see his family again to see how they really live? With the article “Drums and Bells Open Indian Museum”, the reason why I chose to use that quote is because, its like they had the United States first but then countries started to go at war to fight then we came in and just attacked.
In conclusion, I feel like now that I explained you and I both should know the story way better than before. Yes they did give way more detail, but I think I gave a brief summary about both of them but you basically still know what happened even if someone didnt read the article . I don’t know about you but I feel like I out it into perspective. The reason I think I gave a brief summary is because, for the most part I made it short and sweet, so much so that I can still understand the stories but now that I've read it i can see it happening in my head!
