It has always haunted Dan Miller (Father) to have a hearing son. He thought that he was able to except the fact that his son is Deaf. At counseling the couple continues to argue about their night. After counseling and guitar lessons the family heads to Speech Therapy classes, after Speech Therapy the family heads home for dinner. But this time Laura eats alone. She is just so torn, she wants her son to be happy, but hates that the only way he can be happy are to hear. She hates that her husband was so determined for their son to receive implants. She just wants him to love her son the way he was born… then it hit her that the reason why Dan was so determined was because he wanted his son the way he was born, which was hearing and that he wasn’t being selfish, this is the life we would have lived if he would have continued to be hearing.
The next day, Laura talks to Adam about what its like to hear the bird chirps. It was a beautiful summer day and Adam told her that the birds were singing. He tried to explain, but couldn’t find the right words. Laura became frustrated and once again felt like she was being left out, that she should die knowing what a bird chirp sounded like, what a dog bark sounded like, what her sons guitar sounded
